The City of Norcross is looking for a Full-time
Facilities Technician. Performs a wide range of facilities support services tasks including non-technical maintenance of plumbing, electrical, heating, ventilating, and/or air conditioning facilities and equipment, at a level not requiring formal licensure. May be required to perform tasks of other unlicensed trades, such as a light equipment operator, carpenter, painter, and/or locksmith. Assist in coordinating contractor/vendor services and access to facilities. Conducts facility inspections and maintains facility records.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitors, coordinates, maintains, and performs standard repairs to facilities and systems, assists licensed vendors non-technical repairs as appropriate.
- Monitors performance of heating, ventilation, and cooling systems for facilities; performs standard repair/replacement of components, as appropriate, and non-technical maintenance tasks such as cleaning of heating and cooling fan coil units and adjustment of system controls.
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Conducts inspections, observes and evaluates condition of the facilities to work with supervisor to set priorities for lifecycle maintenance.
- Documents facilities maintenance requirements and maintains appropriate records of work performed.
- Maintains facilities data, inventory, and building records.
- Maintains equipment and ensures facility mechanical, roofing, gutter, electrical, lighting, security and plumbing systems are in good working order.
- Provides visual enhancements for facilities, including cleaning, painting and repairs.
- Ensures storage areas, tools and materials are stored in an organized and safe manner.
- Provide backup to the duties related to Fleet coordination and documentation.
- Provide backup to Custodial staff and services, including cleaning and supplies.
- May perform general maintenance, custodial, and trash removal tasks.
- Assists in Key control and access management.
- Assists in moving furniture, boxes, and other tasks for personnel moves and relocation when required.
- Occasionally, work unusual hours, including weekends to support events and emergencies.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:Any other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Continuing education or vocational training preferred.
- At least 2 years’ experience in facility maintenance and repair.
- Basic working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, roofing, or carpentry.
- Must comply with City policies for Controlled Substances and Alcohol use Testing Policy.
- Possession of a valid Georgia driver’s license.
- Experience with applicable software, including but not limited to: MS Office
Scope and Impact:
Position has recurring work situations involving high degrees of discretion. The need for accuracy and effective utilization of accepted programs and routines is high. Errors in judgment will waste resources and adversely impact performance. Incumbent operates independently but work is verified. Content of work priorities are determined by supervision. Contact is typically with co-workers, other city employees, and the general public. The interaction is generally to provide and/or exchange information, coordinate services, and resolve problems and is done in-person, on the phone, and/or via email.
Competencies:- A thorough knowledge of general maintenance procedures along with a skill set that includes basic proficiencies.
- Knowledge of basic in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point)
- Knowledge of basic internet and email operations
- Ability to perform and manage technical tasks using independent judgment and personal initiative.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Strong customer and interpersonal skills are essential.
- Aptitude for organizing tasks, managing time and prioritizing work.
- Must exhibit sound judgment, tact, courtesy on a daily basis, and have good rapport with staff members.
- Knowledge of the methods and practices involved in Facility operations.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary to the operation of heavy trucks and equipment
- Ability to learn, comprehend, and comply apply all city or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
