Position Summary
The Recreation Coordinator assists with developing, administering, managing, and evaluating a wide range of community-based programs, special events, and leagues for individuals of all ages. This position ensures that programs are tailored to meet community and specific group needs, while effectively sourcing necessary materials and resources, monitoring site budget, and optimizing the use of facilities and staff. This position is designed to assist with providing a variety of recreational opportunities with a focus on youth programming, pickleball, and special event to enrich the community experience. This may be a union position.
Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in preparing and promoting Park and Recreation activities, community specific events and programs, including but not limited to brochures, newsletters, signs, and other methods of community engagement in conjunction with Sr. Communications Coordinator.
- Assists in hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating seasonal and part-time staff to conduct recreational programs, services, and staffing needs at park facilities.
- Evaluates recreational programs, event, and activities, and makes recommendations for improvements to enhance community engagement and satisfaction.
- Assists in preparation and reporting of annual budgets for designated programs, ensuring proper allocation of resources, and monitoring revenue generation.
- Assists in monitoring recreational program budgets, including but not limited to development, creating and handling registration fees, purchasing and maintaining inventory of equipment and supplies, and overseeing the financial scholarship programs and sponsorships.
- Maintains accurate program records and reports to ensure compliance and tracking of program outcomes.
- Coordinate the procurement, organization, and distribution of supplies, documents, and schedules for recreational programs, events, and activities.
- Assists with the management of recreation facility rentals by providing tours and information to prospective renters.
- Enforces City policies, procedures and park rules for staff, instructors, volunteers, and contracted facility renters as well as enforcements of all safety procedures.
- Available on days, nights, and weekends for recreational programs, activities, events, and facility needs and provide general office support when needed.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Knoweldge, Skills, And Abilities
- Ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and precisely orally and in writing, including presentations.
- Knowledge of recreation management principles, practices, and policies.
- Knowledge of full cycle recreation programming from development and implementation to evaluating results.
- Knowledge of materials, supplies, documents, and programs commonly used in parks and recreation departments.
- Ability to work as part of a team and establish and maintain good working relationships with the general public, City Council, contractors, businesses, staff, and other government agency personnel, displaying political agility and discretion.
- Proactive, self-directed, and detail-oriented, with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Strong organizational and leadership abilities, with a capacity to motivate seasonal staff and ensure their adherence to safety protocols.
- Proficiency in managing of City recreational programming and rental software, including Point of Sale and CivicRec.
- Ability to identify issues and proactively address them to position the City in a positive manner.
- Skilled in researching and preparing materials for City events and programs, with a focus on proposing ideas for enhancements to make events, facilities, and programs more successful.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate’s Degree in Parks and Recreation Management, Leisure Studies, Sports Administration, Education, Public Administration, Marketing, or related field.
- 1+ years of experience in event planning, recreational programing, marketing, public administration, or education.
- Experience with Microsoft programs, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
- Must be able to physically perform all essential duties of the position.
- Valid Driver’s License with a good driving record.
- Must be able to work on nights and weekends for Parks and Recreation special events, programs, leagues, and other activities.
Desirable Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation Management, Leisure Studies, Sports Administration, Education, Public Administration, Marketing, or related field.
- 3+ years’ experience in recreational programing
- Prior work experience in municipal recreation.
- Experience with CivicRec or other online recreation and registrations systems.
- Prior work experience with youth sports and special events.
Supplemental Information
SUPERVISION
Position does not have any direct report and will assist in providing direction of part-time/seasonal Parks and Recreation staff. This position works independently with moderate supervision.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Environmental And Physical Conditions
Indoor and outdoor environments; exposure to computer screens; working closely with others; frequent interruptions. Possible exposure to inclement weather conditions, exposure to working with moving objects/vehicles. Duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, walking for prolonged periods of time; kneeling, climbing, bending, and stooping, moderate lifting and carrying; general manual dexterity; adequate hearing, vision, and speech required; and must be able to operate assigned equipment and vehicles.

City Of Champlin’s Benefits Overview
The City of Champlin offers a comprehensive and competitive benefits package for full-time and part-time positions. Individual benefits may vary slightly depending on the specific position, full or part-time status or union contract.
Retirement
All public employees are currently mandated by the State to participate in the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA). 6.5% of the employee's gross wage or salary is matched with a 7.5% contribution from the City. PERA plus Social Security benefits make up the coordinated retirement program.
City offers deferred compensation (457) retirements plans through Mission Square and MN Deferred Compensation Plan. City did not contribute to these plans.
Medical Benefits
Coverage is provided by Medica through a High Deductible Health Care with an HSA. For full-time employees the City will cover the cost of the single coverage premium per month. Part-time employees may receive pro-rated coverage. Depending on the medical plan election, the City may contribute to the HSA plan. There is an option to opt-out if covered under another qualifying plan.
Dental Benefits
Coverage through Delta Dental. For full-time employees the City will cover the cost of the single coverage premium per month. Part-time employees may receive pro-rated coverage. There is an option to opt-out if covered under another qualifying plan.
Vision Benefits
Coverage through EyeMed. For regular full-time employees will off an employee paid vision plan.
Paid Vacation
Paid vacation is available to all regular full-time employees and is accrued at the following rates:

11+ years An additional 8 hours per year,
not to exceed 200 hours per year
Part-time employees averaging 40 hours per pay period shall be eligible to accrue pro-rated vacation benefits.
Paid Sick Leave
Employees can earn a total of 96 sick leave hours per year.
12 1/2 Paid Holidays And 4-Hour Floating Holiday
All regular full-time employees of the City, except those who are governed by a union contract or different holiday policy, receive twelve to twelve and half (12 to 12 1/2) paid specific holidays and one 4-hour floating holiday.

Flexible Spending Benefits
Offer a pre-tax reimbursement through a third-party administrator for Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Dependent Care Account (DCA). The city does not contribute to FSA or DCA.
Credit Union Membership – Eligible for membership.

Long Term Disability
Long-term disability insurance coverage is provided to all full-time employees who work a minimize for 30 hours per week.
Tuition Reimbursement
Tuition reimbuserment program for employees attending job-related courses. Reimbursements will be pro-rated for part-time employees.

Payroll is biweekly and payday is Thursday.
