The City of Hapeville is accepting applications for a full-time Economic Development Specialist.
Hourly Pay: $21.00 - $24.00/hour DOE
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Assist with marketing efforts. The Economic Development Specialist works with the Planning & Economic Development Manager and Main Street Coordinator to assist with ribbon cutting and special events. The Economic Development Specialist attends events/meetings/conferences representing the Economic Development office and assist with the e news blasts and other written materials.
Assists in website information maintenance by conducting research to enhance business and tourism information, monitoring activities, events, etc
Coordinates and processes movie/film location and related requests and acts as the assistant liaison to the community, businesses, film scouts and production companies, as needed.
Provides administrative support to the Economic Development staff; relieves staff of routine administrative tasks; screens telephone calls, mail, and e-mail messages and initiates appropriate action/response; records/relays messages or directs to other personnel/departments as appropriate; keeps accurate information of problems, messages, documentation, or other pertinent issues; composes, types, edits, or proofreads correspondence; records and/or transcribes dictation; maintains files and records; provides assistance to management and staff as needed.
Provides customer service via telephone and in person; answers telephone calls, greets visitors, and handles issues; provides information regarding City services, events, procedures, or other issues; works to resolve problems for citizens; researches complaints, obtains information, and works to independently resolve problems; routes difficult problems or issues to other departments/individuals as appropriate; performs follow-up to ensure resolution of problems.
Conducts research as needed; research City contracts/agreements, meeting minutes, codes/ordinances, Internet sites, electronic data sources, hardcopy materials, department files, or other sources as needed; compiles and summarizes data for use in various reports and projects.
Assists with the preparation of budget; works with staff to ensure timely submission of budget proposals; compiles, prepares, and distributes budget documentation.
Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, budget documents, press releases, presentations, charts, or other documents.
Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, invoices, budget reports, agendas, meeting minutes, campaign contribution records, financial disclosure reports, maps, user manuals, codes, ordinances, policies, procedures, manuals, directories, reference materials, or other documentation.
Communicates with supervisor, department managers, City employees, other departments, the public, local businesses, outside agencies, the media, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
Works with the Main Street & Grants Coordinator to manage social media efforts; creates posts, determines timeline, images, writing/editing of departmental activities and City events and information to social media sites. Monitors social media posts, responding with official city message once authorized in compliance with social media policy.
Assists with promoting the attributes, programs, and events of the city, through events, and communications activities; informational programs and activities including branding, imaging and messaging efforts to better communicate central themes, goals, and messages to internal and external audiences.
Maintains strict confidentiality of departmental documentation, issues, and confidences.
Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures; reads professional literature; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate.
Operates a personal computer, general office equipment or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions, to include the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, or other system software
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Public Relations, Marketing, Business Administration or Urban Planning; supplemented by three (3) to five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in municipal economic development, public administration, marketing, community relations, or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
