Valley County is looking for a highly motivated and experienced
Facilities Director to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for all county-owned buildings and the county transfer station. This critical role ensures the delivery of safe, functional, and efficient environments for county employees and the public.
The Facilities Director will manage a team of support staff, develop and implement preventative maintenance programs, oversee capital improvement projects, and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations. This position offers wide latitude for independent judgment and initiative, allowing the successful candidate to make a significant impact on the county's infrastructure.
Typical Duties & Responsibilities- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement long-range plans for facilities maintenance, operations, and capital improvements.
- Facilities Management: Oversee the maintenance, repair, and operation of all county-owned buildings and the county transfer station, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and structural systems.
- Team Management: Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate facilities support staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Budget Management: Develop and manage the facilities department budget, ensuring cost-effective operations and resource allocation.
- Project Management: Plan, manage, and oversee capital improvement projects, including renovations, expansions, and new construction.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with all applicable building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
- Preventative Maintenance: Develop and implement a comprehensive preventative maintenance program to maximize the lifespan and efficiency of facilities and equipment.
- Vendor Management: Negotiate and manage contracts with vendors and service providers.
- Emergency Response: Develop and implement emergency response plans for facilities-related incidents.
- Transfer Station Oversight: Manage the operations and maintenance of the county transfer station, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and efficient waste management practices.
- Public Relations: Act as a liaison with county departments, contractors, and the public regarding facilities-related matters.
Typical QualificationsThe ideal candidate will have considerable knowledge of building maintenance, facilities or construction management, and relevant building and safety codes and regulations. Additionally, the candidate should have experience performing skilled repair and maintenance in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, building maintenance, and grounds-related work; using specialized tools and equipment; reading blueprints and specifications, maintaining maintenance records, and preparing related reports; evaluating facilities to determine construction and modification needs; budgeting; estimating material needs and costs for jobs; and supervising staff.
