SUMMARY
Join our dynamic Finance Team as the new Utility Billing Clerk. Our Finance Department is a dedicated team of professionals committed to ensuring exceptional service to our community, staff, and leadership.
Under direct supervision, the Utility Billing Clerk creates, drafts, and delivers all billing for the town’s water, sewage, and trash customers. Monitors and tracks all consumption and payments made to resident utility accounts and handles all reservations for the Pavilion and Town Hall.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Receives, processes, and manages all payments made to utility accounts through the mail, drop box, online, and in person; ensures accuracy in receiving, applying payments to appropriate accounts, and daily accounting of payments made.
- Gathers, compiles, and enters various meter readings into the utility billing software; reviews all readings submitted by Public Works technicians, accurately enters information, and generates accurate consumption and use metrics for department.
- Creates, prepares, and submits service orders for current customers and new customers; provides communication between technicians and customers regarding issues, meter reading inquiries, and various work that has been requested or submitted.
- Schedules, manages, and bills for the use of the Town Park, Town Hall, and various Pavilion rentals; fills out required documents, processes payments, and coordinates the usage calendar around events and meetings.
- Receives and fields incoming calls and inquiries regarding utilities and billing; answers customers, dispatches appropriate personnel to address concerns, and ensures customer concerns are addressed and handled in a timely and effective manner.
- Handles, sorts, and disperses daily mail delivery; ensures appropriate bills are submitted and processed and delivers mail to appropriate departments.
- Drafts monthly and daily reports regarding consumption and utility usage; assists and supports in various town mailings, surveys, and newsletters; implements new services and technologies including e-billing and other online payment programs.
- Complete daily money and online reports and count down money drawer with cash flow sheet.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines High School Diploma/GED and one (1) year of billing and customer service experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Knowledge of: • Utility billing and services. • Typing, emailing, answering phones, and general office tasks and duties. • Processing payments and handling monies in person, through the mail, and the payment drop box. • Mathematical calculations and accuracy. • Customer service practices and methods. • Computer and software application including excel spreadsheets used for communications and supply tracking. Skill in: • Working with utility billing software and systems. • Processing payments including credit card and online payments. • Providing customer service and interacting with patrons; providing help and dispatching appropriate technicians for customer concerns. • Operating a computer including standard software. • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. • Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS A valid Driver’s License is required.
