The purpose of this position is to provide management of the assigned responsibility in the Beaufort County Library system i.e., marketing, messaging, and branding; programming; and technology. This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
- Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
- Manages the daily operations of assigned division: manages budget and allocates funds; creates and updates policies and procedures; sets goals and plans for the future.
- Provides technology infrastructure, security and usability for the library patrons and staff.
- Supports patrons directly in their use of Library provided technology tools.
- Monitors technology effectiveness of in place systems and processes.
- Creates and distributes email newsletters to library cardholders and to library staff.
- Reviews and edits content created by library staff.
- Responds to external and internal inquiries.
- Implements a sales and marketing plan to promote library services.
- Identifies and targets potential group customers, including corporations, schools, churches, and community organizations.
- Works closely with the marketing team to develop and execute marketing campaigns and promotions targeting groups.
- Provides excellent customer service to library patrons, including responding to inquiries, resolving issues, and addressing concerns.
- Performs related work as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires Master of Science degree in a professional or scientific field such as physics, engineering, geology or closely related field.
- Over two years and up to and including four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
- South Carolina Public Librarian Certification, preferred.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment. Employment is contingent upon clearing both the drug screening and background investigation.
