About The Position
The Forensic Technician Intern learns to perform specialized work in assisting Forensic Technicians with the postmortem examination of decedents, collection of samples, and maintaining records.

The goal of these investigations is to determine the medical cause (disease and/or injury) of the death to help improve public health and safety. We Require
This position requires that you are currently enrolled in an Associate or Bachelor's degree program, or that you are a recent graduate from an accredited college or university in a Forensic Science, Biological Science, Mortuary Science, or related criminology or forensic field.
Other Requirement
Successful candidates will be required to complete a post-job offer medical evaluation in order to use N95 respirators.
We Also Value
- Two (2) years of completed college-level courses in anatomy and physiology
- Experience working with decedents or relevant experience working in emergency medical services
- Prior experience working or volunteering in a medical examiner or coroner’s office
- Prior experience with data entry
- Prior experience working or volunteering in a medical examiner or coroner’s office is highly desirable
Job Contributions
- Collects tissue samples and bodily fluid specimens for toxicology, histology, and microbiology
- Performs head and neck evisceration under instruction and guidance of Forensic Technicians and the Medical Examiner
- Sutures decedents after autopsy is completed
- Assists in weighing bodies and internal organs to document findings
- Documents exam-related information into the Department’s case management system
- Cleans and disinfects examination tables, instruments, equipment, and examination rooms
- Transport of decedents to and from the body storage cooler using a pallet jack and proper lifting mechanics
- Assists with fingerprinting the decedent for accurate records and identification
- Stocks examination suites with required PPE, instruments, and supplies
Working Conditions
This position requires your ability to work with decedents in a decomposed state and work in malodorous conditions. You must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
