Essential Duties And Responsibilities
The Accounting Technician III serves as the lead technician within the Utility Billing Division and is responsible for supervising field staff, managing daily billing operations, and ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant billing and collections processes. Essential duties include, but are not limited to:
- Supervise field technicians and oversee day-to-day operations of the front office utility billing functions.
- Serve as the lead technician for accounts receivable, including utility billing, business licenses, taxes, and other municipal receivables.
- Monitor meter reading progress to ensure accuracy and adherence to billing schedules.
- Review and verify daily deposits prepared by Accounting Technicians I and II and sign off on any voids.
- Generate and complete the full billing cycle for utility customers, including adjustments and corrections as needed.
- Prepare, process, and reconcile the monthly resolution cut-off packet in accordance with city policies.
- Assist in the month-end and year-end closing processes, including account reconciliations and ledger maintenance.
- Create, update, and maintain detailed accounting sub-ledgers and tracking spreadsheets.
- Serve as a backup to the Accounting Technician II, ensuring continuity of operations during absences.
- Perform customer service functions, including handling high volumes of calls, emails, in-person inquiries, and dispute resolution.
- Oversee and/or resolve complex customer disputes and escalate unresolved issues as appropriate.
- Support and train new staff in coordination with the Accounting Technician II; provide ongoing guidance to all assigned staff.
- Perform daily end-of-day reconciliation/countdown for Accounting Technicians I and II.
- Compose, proofread, and prepare correspondence, memoranda, reports, and presentations for internal and external distribution.
- Prepare, maintain, and organize standard forms, letters, and customer notices.
- Monitor and manage storm water utility billing to ensure compliance with city ordinances.
- Provide updates to the city’s utility billing website and online payment portal.
- Oversee and Coordinate meter replacement meter and ongoing maintenance.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the Utility Billing Division and Public Services Department.

Education And Experience
- Any combination of education and experience that has provided the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying.
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration; two years of governmental accounting experience or three years of professional level accounting experience.
