This is an administrative support position responsible for coordinating and preparing legislation.Functions as administrative support for the preparation of legislation, and coordinates legislative processes with the Law Department, City Clerk's Office, Office of Hearing Boards or other relevant City departments. Reviews and proofreads legislation for accuracy, and assists with following-up as assigned to ensure that all documents are in proper order for final distribution. An incumbent in this classification should have excellent organizational, communication and computer application skills (Microsoft Word, Excel) and be able to work independently, in a high pressure environment and be able to meet tight deadlines. Reports to a higher level administrator.Prepares draft legislation, and compiles and maintains back up materials used in the preparation of legislation.Drafts and edits legislation as requested.Types legislation in an acceptable form.Summarizes City Commission agendas.Distributes designated assignments to departmental staff, or refers items to other departments as appropriate.Coordinates the legislative approval process with the Law Department, City Clerk's Office, Office of Hearing Boards or other relevant departments.Provides technical assistance to department staff and the general public relating to the City's legislation and covenant preparation process, its provisions and administration.Maintains files which include a summary log of all legislation.Performs other related duties as required. A minimum of 60 college credits, and considerable two (2) years experience in a high level clerical/administrative support capacity position working with federal, state and local regulations and/or ordinances, or experience in technical writing and/or legislation development. Experience working in the public sector is preferred.

Equivalent combination of training and experience beyond a high school diploma or its equivalent and six (6) months of the required experience.

Selection Preference for City Residents: In accordance with APM 2-02, applicants for classified positions who are City of Miami residents and new hires will receive preference in selection from interview ranking bands provided that any two (2) of the following documents are submitted with the employment application and again at time of interview:
