Under general supervision, to perform duties in the paraprofessional job category in the Code Enforcement Division of the Police Department, and to perform other related duties as required.
This at-will, part-time position and is not eligible for City benefits. Prompt application is encouraged. Performs paraprofessional duties in a support role to relieve superiors of various code enforcement responsibilities including but not limited to locating and investigating reported violations of land use and building regulations; implements directions from superiors that are provided orally and/or in writing; reports orally and/or in writing to superiors regarding safety and health concerns encountered while performing required duties; operates motor vehicle while conducting inspections pertaining to building and property maintenance, storage, public nuisances, occupancy standards, zoning regulations, and business license conditions; issues citations or prepares criminal complaints; impounds vehicles; maintains records of investigations and inspections; prepares routine correspondence and reports; coordinates assigned duties with other departments; takes photographs; reads plans and blueprints; testifies in court; responds to inquiries over the telephone, or in person regarding local codes and ordinances.
Knowledge Of
Vehicle Code of the State of California; correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation; business letter writing and forms; filing and indexing.
Ability To
Meet medical standards for the class prescribed in the City of Redondo Beach Medical Standards, and physical employment standards prescribed in the Industrial Relations and Insurance Support Services Job Analysis; satisfactorily perform required duties; read, speak, write and understand the English language; work weekends, holidays and/or overtime; adhere to applicable terms and conditions of employment including but not limited to safety and health regulations, labor agreements, City rules and regulations, policies and procedures; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge and ability necessary to perform required duties.
Other
Possession of a valid Class "C" California Driver License is a condition of employment for those appointed to this class. Penal Code 832 certification is desirable.
Selection Process
The selection process may include but is not limited to: Application review and evaluation, written examination, performance test and interview. The pre-employment process may include but not be limited to: Reference checks, background investigation, fingerprint-based criminal history check, credit check, degree verification, and post-offer medical examination and drug test. For public safety positions, including positions based in the Police and/or Fire Department(s), the pre-employment process may also include but not be limited to a P.O.S.T. compliant background check, polygraph examination, post-offer medical examination and drug test, and post-offer psychological examination.
