The City of Surprise Community Development Department seeks two highly motivated, collaborative, solutions-oriented leaders to join its team as a Code Enforcement Inspector I. These positions, the first in the Code Enforcement Inspector series, work closely with internal and external stakeholders to educate and resolve code violations.
The work environment is a hybrid of field and office settings, with occasional evening or weekend commitments. A successful candidate will demonstrate strong customer focus, conflict resolution skills, and the ability to manage a variety of unique cases of varying complexity.
The Schedules Will Be As Follows
Position 1 - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 7:00am-5:30pm
Position 2 - Wednesday – Saturday 7:00am-5:30pm

Summary
Incumbent performs field inspections and administrative support work in the investigation of complaints and violations of property maintenance zoning, sign code, business license, housing safety regulations and other various municipal code violations. During investigations, incumbents will research prior case reports, property ownership, and city and state records to facilitate resolution of complaints. Incumbents will issue violation notices to order the compliance, abatement, discontinuance, removal, or alteration of conditions, which violate applicable ordinances, laws, and regulations. In the case of non-compliance, incumbents will issue civil citations, prepare court reports and testify to aid in the resolution of complaints. This position requires extensive public contact, superior customer service and significant documentation in the form of case reports, photographs and other various records.
EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or G.E.D. and two years code enforcement or investigative experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Additional education cannot be substituted for experience.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have at the time of hire and be able to maintain a valid Arizona driver license.
