- Senior Services Division keeps seniors active with special events like dances, crafts, movie days and office support. We also provide exercise classes, educational seminars, outings, daily lunches, and case management.
- Community Programs Division plans and organizes City-wide special events, operates Leisure Classes, assists with community garden, and provides office support.

Under general supervision, assist in the planning, promoting, and implementing of a variety of City-wide special events and recreation and community services programs.
Supervision Received And Exercised
Supervision is provided by the Program Coordinator or Supervisor.

Assist in organizing and leading activities for children, adults and seniors in the City's recreation programs; when assigned to facilities monitoring, provide facilities oversight and set-up and break down of equipment during scheduled activities; assist in distribution of promotional materials; assist in other duties as assigned.
Qualification Guidelines
Education And/or Experience
To qualify for this classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities, and enable the individual to successfully perform the essential job functions of the position. A typical combination is:
One (1) year as a Recreation Leader I or 1,000 hours paid and/or volunteer hours of employment in a recreation or community-based program, including public contact experience. Completion of education sufficient to assure the ability to read and write at the level required for successful job performance.
Knowledge Of
Leadership principles in a variety of sports, games, and crafts, and activities for all ages.
Ability To
Effectively interact with the public and City staff; maintain enthusiasm and a willingness to learn; perform duties involving walking, bending, kneeling, lifting and climbing; and work outdoors.

Special Requirements
Must Be Minimum Of 18 Years Of Age At Time Of Application. This position requires the ability to work a variety of hours, depending on assignment, including nights, weekends, and holidays; must be able to exercise good judgment, courtesy and tact with staff and public; must be flexible, detail oriented, organized, work well with minimal supervision, work effectively, both independently and in groups, willingness to assume personal responsibility for maintaining a safe environment, adapt well to a variety of situations, self-starter, present a clean, neat appearance appropriate to public contact, able to make independent and responsible decisions for him/herself and provide reliable transportation and proof of insurance.
Possession of a valid Class "C" California Driver's License is required when driving any vehicle.
Physical Demands
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds or more with assistance; sit, stand, squat, kneel, climb stairs, stoop, and walk for prolonged periods of time; and get from one location to another in the course of doing business.
Work Environment
Employee generally works outdoors. Employee may travel to different locations and be exposed to inclement weather conditions, noise, vibration, dust, or potentially hazardous chemicals. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high and the employee may occasionally be exposed to loud talking and interruptions from telephones and/or members of the public. The nature of the work also requires incumbents to drive motorized vehicles and work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions.

Selection Process
Applicants must complete an application online prior to the final filing date. Applications will be screened for qualifications appropriate background and only the most qualified will be invited to participate in the oral examination process. Applicants will be notified by email as to the interview date, time and location. The examination process will include:
Oral Interview weighted at 100%.
Candidates will be required to pass a City administered pre-employment physical and may be required to pass a thorough background investigation and polygraph examination as a part of the selection process. Candidates who do not pass will be disqualified and removed from the eligibility list.

The current vacancy offers varied work schedule and may require daytime, evenings and weekend hours.
