The purpose of this class is to coordinate, track, document, and report on project-oriented initiatives and grant-related activities that support the mission and strategic objectives of the Hampton Sheriff’s Office (HSO). The Project Support Coordinator works collaboratively with Sheriff’s Office leadership, staff, and external stakeholders to support planning, execution, and successful completion of projects within established timeframes, budgets, and resource constraints. The position performs duties under the direct supervision of the Chief Deputy of Administration, Chief Deputy of Security, and Chief Deputy of Operations. Pursuant to
- 15.2–1603 of the Code of Virginia, the incumbent is appointed at-will and serves at the pleasure of the Sheriff. This is a salaried position.
What You’ll Do
- Coordinate and track multiple agency projects from planning to completion
- Develop project plans, timelines, milestones, budgets, and resource strategies
- Facilitate meetings, document action items, and manage follow-up tasks
- Monitor progress, identify risks, and implement contingency plans
- Prepare analytical, operational, and executive-level reports
- Serve as the primary liaison for the Sheriff’s Office grant programs
- Research, prepare, submit, and manage grant applications
- Ensure compliance with funding requirements and reporting obligations
- Safeguard confidential and sensitive information
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, management, or a related field
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in project coordination, project management, grants coordination, or a closely related role.
- Relevant experience may substitute for education at the rate of one (1) year of experience for each year of required education.
- Must successfully pass a background investigation before employment.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
