PAY AND BENEFITS
WASTEWATER PLANT OPERATOR 1
Annual Pay Range: $62,782.66 - $80,239.43
Hourly Pay Range: $30.183970 - $38.576649
WASTEWATER PLANT OPERATOR 2
Annual Pay Range: $69,321.74 - $88,492.04
Hourly Pay Range: $33.327760 - $42.544250
Salary offers will be made within the posted pay range and will be based on a candidate's experience (paid or unpaid) that is directly relevant to the position.

JOB DETAILS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Clackamas Water Environment Services (WES) is searching for a motivated individual to join our dedicated team as a Wastewater Plant Operator 1 or 2, assisting plant operations at both the Hoodland and Boring Pump Treatment Facilities. Ideal candidates will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a team-oriented approach to work. If selected for this position, you will assist in the inspection, maintenance, monitoring, operation, and process control of the treatment facilities. Key components of this position include operating wastewater treatment plant equipment, performing routine maintenance and cleaning, planning, monitoring, evaluating and adjusting the treatment process, and participating as an important member of the team coordinating/overseeing plant operations and maintenance.
This is a unique opportunity as we are planning to fill a vacant position as either a Wastewater Plant Operator 1 or 2 as a result of this recruitment process and are willing to consider applicants at either the Operator 1 or 2 level.

Incumbents in the Wastewater Plan Operator 1 classification will be promoted to the Wastewater Plant Operator 2 classification upon satisfactory completion of an approved training and development plan. Possession of the required knowledge, skills, certification, and abilities at the higher level must be documented as part of the approved Training and Development Plan.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS FOR WASTEWATER PLANT OPERATOR 1
Required Minimum Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*
• Certification by the State of Oregon as Wastewater Treatment Grade 1 Operator
• A High School Diploma or GED
• Knowledge of materials, methods, practices, processes, and equipment used in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plants and facilities
• Knowledge of Federal and state laws, regulations and permit requirements regarding wastewater treatment
• Experience providing excellent customer service and answering customer questions and/or complaints
• Experience operating hand tools and power tools necessary to maintain and operate equipment
• Experience applying safety precautions and performing all tasks within the established safety protocols
• Must be able to respond to after-hours emergencies on a call-out basis
• Must pass a post-offer physical assessment; accommodation requests will be reviewed on an individual basis in compliance with State and Federal legislation
• Driving is required for County business on a regular basis or to accomplish work. REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS FOR WASTEWATER PLANT OPERATOR 2
Required Minimum Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*
• Same as for the Wastewater Plant Operator 1 (listed above) AND Certification by the State of Oregon as Wastewater Treatment Grade 2 Operator at the time of hire
Post-Employment Requirements:
• Forklift certification within 90 days of hire
Preferred Special Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills for all applicants:*
• Experience and/or education in wastewater treatment or related utility operations
• Certification by the State of Oregon as a Wastewater Treatment Grade 3 Operator
• Strong work history in independent facility operations with minimal supervision
• Associate's Degree in Wastewater Technology, Chemistry, Microbiology or a related field
• Experience with Rotating Biological Contractor treatment processes
• Experience with Lagoon and sand filter treatment processes
• Experience monitoring, troubleshooting, and diagnosing equipment malfunctions and taking or recommending appropriate corrective action
• Confined Space Entry certification
• CPR/First Aid certification

WORKING CONDITIONS
Duties require physical labor, including walking, reaching, squatting, kneeling, bending, balancing, climbing, shoveling, fine motor control, and ability to lift up to 50 pounds, carry, and push/pull up to 70 pounds. Duties also involve exposure to bacteria, viruses and toxins in wastewater, chemicals, exhaust fumes and dust, loud noises, and vibration. Some duties involve exposure to adverse weather conditions and hazardous locations, such as streets, live sewers, confined underground areas and on elevated platforms.
Incumbents may perform after-hours emergency response on a callout basis.
WORK SCHEDULE
This position works 40 hours during a standard workweek of 6:00 am - 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday:
• Specific hours of work will be discussed with the candidate selected for this position at the time an offer of employment is extended.
• Work locations include Boring Pump Treatment Facility (13305 SE Richey Road, Boring OR 97009) and Hoodland Pump Treatment Facility (24596 E Bright Ave, Welches, OR 97067).
• This position is designated as on-site/in-person. It is expected that the selected candidate will perform duties at the specified on-site work location.

Clackamas Water Environment Services produces clean water and protects water quality for more than 190,000 people living and working in Clackamas County. We operate and maintain five resource recovery facilities, 23 pumping stations and hundreds of miles of pipes.
Each year, we clean more than seven billion gallons of water which we recover and turn into natural energy and fertilizer. We also help reduce pollution in local rivers, streams, and wetlands caused by surface and stormwater runoff, the number one source of water pollution in Oregon.
