PAY AND BENEFITS
Annual Pay Range: $58,717.56 - $74,962.87
Hourly Pay Range: $28.229598 - $36.039842
Salary offers will be made within the posted pay range and will be based on a candidate's experience (paid or unpaid) that is directly relevant to the position.

JOB DETAILS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is seeking a highly motivated, trainable, and detail-oriented individual with excellent customer service skills. The ideal candidate will possess data entry, analysis, and written and oral communication skills to fill a journey-level Accounting Specialist 2 position. Incumbents perform complex paraprofessional duties in accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll processing, and reporting. The work requires detailed knowledge of professional financial recordkeeping methods and practices.
The Accounting Specialist 2 will respond to requests and inquiries from internal and external customers and is expected to function independently and exercise independent judgment within the framework of existing accounting policies and procedures.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
All Sheriff's Office positions require a complete Statement of Personal History (SPH).
Only those applicants selected will need to submit the SPH. The SPH is due 10 calendar days AFTER you have been notified. Applicants will receive instructions from the Department of Human Resources or the Sheriff's Office on how to login to the electronic SPH.
Required Minimum Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*
• A minimum of two (2) years of experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll functions.
• Experience analyzing financial problems by applying accounting principles, concepts, and theories to develop solutions and recommendations.
• A minimum of two (2) years of experience providing customer service with both external and internal customers.
• Experience working in positions that required excellent attention to detail.
• Must pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test
• Must pass an extensive background investigation, including national fingerprint records check

• Driving is required for County business on a regular basis or to accomplish work. Preferred Special Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*
• An Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting or a related field is desirable.
• Experience with PeopleSoft financial management software, report generating software and Microsoft Office products.
• Experience in financial reporting and auditing data for completeness and accuracy in a state or local government.
• Knowledge of budgetary compliance and Oregon budget law.
• Experience processing accounts payable and accounts receivable at a state or local government.
• Experience completing corrective journal entries.
• Experience preparing cash and credit deposits.
• Experience working in a law enforcement environment.

TYPICAL TASKS
Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
1. Reviews vouchers, invoices, cash receipts, purchase orders, timesheets, interfunds and other source documents for accuracy, proper authorizations, adequate documentation and appropriate account numbers; identifies and resolves discrepancies and prepares corrective entries; ensures budgeted funds are available to cover payables.
2. Establishes and maintains statistical, bookkeeping and accounting control records; prepares and enters approved journal entries, assigning debits and credits to appropriate accounts in general and subsidiary ledgers; reviews and verifies cash receipts and deposit summaries; balances accounts.
3. Maintains financial, statistical and inventory records on an automated system; creates, revises and analyzes complex computer spreadsheets and reports; researches and abstracts technical data.
4. Monitors assigned department budgets; may assist departments in preparing annual and supplemental budgets; prepares forms for budget transfers and adjustments; advises departments on availability of funds and recommends transfers and adjustments.
5. Prepares federal, state and local claims, statements, reports, tax returns and worksheets from a variety of source reports, data and accounting records.
6. Establishes payment and reporting schedules for grants and contracts; ensures appropriateness of payments subject to grant restrictions; develops reporting format and compiles report documentation; coordinates spending of multiple grants.
7. Provides internal and external customer service; provides technical assistance to County departments and outside auditors; interprets County fiscal and budget policies and procedures; assists employees using the County's automated financial information system.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Thorough knowledge of: Policies, procedures and practices related to assigned accounting system.
Working knowledge of: Methods and practices of financial recordkeeping; applicable federal, state and local statutes, rules and regulations; financial terminology; basic financial information systems and spreadsheet software; basic math; software applications for accounting systems; office practices, procedures and equipment.
Some knowledge of: Principles and techniques of supervision.
Skill to: Interpret and apply the principles, laws, and procedures involved in financial recordkeeping and accounting functions; prepare financial reports and maintain ledgers and journals; analyze data and draw logical conclusions; reconcile differences within the recordkeeping system; understand the recordkeeping system and the relationship among accounting records and documents; provide customer service by effectively meeting and interacting with the public, coworkers and personnel of other departments in a courteous, professional manner; establish and maintain effective working relationships with department, County and other personnel; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; operate computer software and other office equipment.
WORK SCHEDULE
This position works 40 hours during a standard workweek of Monday through Friday. Specific hours of work will be discussed with the candidate selected for this position at the time an offer of employment is extended.
This position is designated as on-site/in-person. It is expected that the selected candidate will perform duties at the specified on-site work location.
