The
Chief of Staff of Strategic Initiatives is a key leadership position within Georgetown University's Department of Planning and Facilities Management (PFM). A divisional leader and senior advisor to the vice president, the Chief of Staff provides strategic guidance, project oversight, monitoring and reporting, and executive materials to support the university's continued growth and success. The Chief of Staff plays a vital role in developing and implementing visionary strategic plans that align with the university's overall mission and goals while driving innovation.
Role
In this role, the Chief of Staff supports and professionalizes the PFM portfolio which includes 400+ union and non-union employees at one of the District’s largest private employers. Portfolio includes:
- Facilities Management: Plan and address preventive, corrective, and deferred maintenance in addition to providing oversight to the department-wide call center.
- Custodial and Grounds: Ensure Association of Physical Plant Administrators Level 2 cleaning standards in addition to providing oversight of recycling, special events, and landscaping programs.
- Capital Projects: Include all project lifecycle stages for planning, design, and construction on both university campuses.
- Engineering and Utilities: Include professional engineering staff and oversight of a 50-year partnership with ENGIE North America, which manages the university’s central utility plant.
- Environmental Health and Safety: Include compliance in the areas of lab safety, radiation safety, biological safety, industrial hygiene, occupational safety, fire safety, and environmental permitting.
- Transportation: Strategy and services related to parking, demand management, fleet management, and shuttles.
- Residential Services: Include revenue and occupancy for student housing and summer programs.
Work Interactions
Internal & External Collaboration
- Work closely with the Department of Planning and Facilities Management leadership to set overall priorities and direction for campus development. Key interactions include the Assistant VP of Facilities and Residential Services, Assistant VP of Capital Projects, Executive Director of Environmental Health and Safety, Executive Director of Real Estate, Senior Finance Officer and HR Business Partner.
- Oversee the Office of the Vice President including an executive assistant.
- Engage trades and service line supervisors on process improvements, strategy initiatives, and client satisfaction.
- Lead and mentor a team of professionals within the Planning and Facilities Management department.
- Collaborate frequently with the Office of the Chief Operating Officer, the Office of the President, the Office of the Provost, Office of Communications, University Information Services, Advancement and various academic schools to prioritize needs and communicate on behalf of the department.
- Partner with the Office of Sustainability to ensure all projects align with Georgetown's sustainability goals.
- Liaise with local, state, and federal entities as needed on services and projects that impact the community.
- Interact with corporations, alumni and donors to showcase how strategic initiatives advance the university's mission.
Communication And Feedback
- Effectively communicate project details, timelines, and challenges to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Actively solicit and incorporate feedback from users and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Prepare clear and concise presentations and reports to communicate project progress and outcomes.
- Foster a culture of open communication and feedback internally and with external partners.
Requirements And Qualifications
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Project Management, or a related field strongly preferred
- At least 10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in facilities management, strategic planning, project management, communications or a related field, with at least five years at a senior-level role
- Proven track record of success in spearheading strategic initiatives and driving innovation in a higher education setting or another similarly complex organization
- Experience in capital project development, implementation, and management
- Exceptional strategic thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Outstanding written and verbal communication and ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at different levels within the organization
- Strong understanding of financial concepts and budgeting principles
- Demonstrated ability in project management and process improvement with a collaborative, team-oriented, and influential leadership style
- Exceptional proficiency in preparing, presenting, and defending briefs, point papers, and decision memorandums

Pay Range
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$135,188.00 - $264,291.85
Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
