The Street Transportation Department Senior PIO is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing a wide range of internal and external communications in a large, multi-faceted, fast-paced department. The Senior PIO will oversee the department's local and national media relations, website content, social media, printed materials, public notifications, public meeting facilitation, video production and various public engagement campaigns.
The Senior PIO provides direction regarding the distribution of public information to department staff and leadership and serves on transportation project teams as the expert in communications and public engagement. This position serves as a liaison between the department and media, community members, other City departments, City Council and more.
The Senior PIO is an integral part of the Street Transportation Department's Communications & Public Engagement Team and supervises the Department's Public Information Officer. The position reports to City's Deputy Communications Director. The Senior PIO must be willing to be on-call at any given time for media purposes. This job is eligible for hybrid teleworking options and generally works traditional business hours, with occasional evenings and weekends based on City needs. Bilingual candidates with fluency in either written and/or conversational Spanish are encouraged to apply.

SALARY
Pay Range: $82,451.20 - $121,825.60 annually.
Hiring Range: $82,451.20 - $105,248.00 annually.

Minimum Qualifications
- Four years of professional experience in public relations or mass media communications, including at least two years at the advanced professional level (Public Information Officer).
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, mass media communications, public relations, advertising, marketing, or a related field.
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

- This position requires the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

Preferred Qualifications
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
- Experience working with traditional (television and print) media.
- Experience with creating digital media content for web, social, etc.
- Experience supervising professional level staff.
- Experience with high-profile or crisis communications/media relations.
- Experience and/or understanding of local government practices and procedures.
- Experience serving as an official spokesperson that displays strong public speaking skills.
