Recommends hiring, trains, motivates, coaches and evaluates employees; instructs, assigns and reviews work of employees; recommends salary increases and promotions, implements discipline; recommends termination.
Supervises crews of employees assigned to multiple general maintenance and traffic signal disciplines; keeps track of employee hours and timesheets; writes daily, weekly, and monthly reports as needed.
Serves as Facilities Manager for Town Hall and other facilities as assigned; assumes responsibility for management of the facilities; maintains and oversees all repairs including internal and outsourced maintenance and repairs.
Oversees the operations of the Town’s Traffic engineering and electrical maintenance activities.
Maintains electronic records of labor, equipment and material hours and costs for Public Works’ Operations Division activities.
Serves as emergency contact for fire and gas detection alarms and/or emergencies; attends citizen meetings regarding facilities, such as equipment emissions, lighting, and noise; ensures the facilities are maintained in a safe and professional manner.
Calls contractors; obtains quotes for large jobs that cannot be done in house, such as roofing, damaged or destroyed street light poles, or large exterior paint jobs.
Ensures that all work is performed by staff using appropriate safety equipment and protection in accordance with established safety standards.
Additional Duties:
Calculates materials and supplies needed; coordinates with vendors/providers for in-house jobs.
Checks on new installations and repairs and reconstruction on Town buildings, concrete work, brick work, sign work, and traffic signal and electrical work.
Refers to Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Town plans or maps, Virginia Work Protection, Administrative Regulations, electrical and safety manuals, policies and procedure manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts.
