DESCRIPTION:Â Centrally located between Pasadena and Arcadia, the City of Sierra Madre is made up of three square miles of serene neighborhoods and green space. Requirements
- Three 24-hour shifts a month.Â
- Attend 75% of all monthly trainings.
- Attend 75% of all Special Department Functions
â Examples Of Duties
- Under close supervision, executes a range of non-hazardous support tasks for the Fire Department; undergoes comprehensive and technical training as a firefighter and carries out additional assigned responsibilities.
- Engages in continuous training and educational sessions, acquiring knowledge of Fire Department policies, procedures, and pertinent documents related to fire hazards and firefighting techniques.
- Â Contributes to the daily operations of the fire station, encompassing tasks like housekeeping, cooking, maintenance, and other associated duties.
- Takes part in fire department initiatives, including pre-fire planning, fire prevention programs, and fire hydrant inspections.
- Â Participates in or facilitates training sessions and station tours for the public, focusing on fire-related subjects.
- Â Handles incoming calls and welcomes visitors; addresses inquiries regarding Fire Department programs, services, or procedures; directs individuals to the appropriate staff following established policies.
- Engages in periodic training sessions with fellow Reserve Firefighters under the guidance of the Reserve Firefighter Coordinator or designee.
- Â Assists firefighters with their daily responsibilities.
- Aids in Fire Prevention inspections.
- Performs basic maintenance on apparatus and facilities under the guidance of sworn members.
- Â Operates motor-driven equipment and automobiles.
- Carries out assigned duties in support of the mission of the SMFD (Fire Department).
Minimum Qualifications
- 18 years of age or older
- Possession of a valid California Driver's License, with a good driving record
- Possession of valid CPR Certification issued by the American Red Cross, or the American Heart Association
- Possession of valid California State EMT License (EMT-B), with local accreditation at the time of appointment
- Certificate of completion from a State of California Accredited Fire Academy
Successful completion of the Los Angeles County Fire Chief's Physical Agility Test (Biddle), or Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) within six (6) months prior to the date of application submission

- Valid California State EMT License (EMT-B), with local accreditation
- Â Certificate of completion from a State of California Accredited Fire Academy
- Successful completion of the Los Angeles County Fire Chief's Physical Agility Test (Biddle), or Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) within six (6) months prior to date of application submission

Special Requirements
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment
Ability to sit, stand, walk, run, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, climb, and lift 125 lbs.; exposure to cold, fire, heat, smoke, noise, outdoors, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, communicable diseases, biohazard materials, explosive materials, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards; ability to travel to different sites and locations; availability for shift work, on-call, and stand-by.
