Objectives
Entry level position providing an introduction to the economic development profession. Individual is responsible for assisting the Economic Development Department in researching, marketing, data analyzation, grant management and overall support of economic development efforts. Individual reports directly to the Director of Economic Development.
Job Standards
Bachelor’s Degree in Economic Development, Business Administration, Finance, or related field. Experience in government, local government, or economics preferred. Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record. Must meet and maintain qualifications for driving on county business as a continued condition of employment. All required licenses and certificates must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.
Essential Functions
- Conducts research and data analysis to include but not limited to: target industry sectors identified in the County’s Economic Development Strategy, industry standards and site selection criteria, workforce and labor demographics (including legislative actions), transportation, housing, utility rates , development costs, and compiles reports on competitiveness;
- Coordinates research activities with key stakeholders including but not limited to: Columbus 2020, Mid-Ohio Regional Planning (MORPC), Building Industry Association (BIA), Mid-Ohio Development Exchange (MODE), National Association for Industrial and Office Parks (NAIOP), Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA)/Delaware County Transit (DCT), Greater Ohio Workforce Board Area 7, state agencies, etc.;
- Assists with the development of business retention, expansion, attraction, and creation plans that corresponds with the County’s Economic Development Strategy;
- Researches and creates communications and marketing strategies and materials to engage various industry sectors and disseminates approved marketing materials including but not limited to letters, email, filers, social media, website, etc.;
- Maintains and updates a key broker, commercial developer and financial investor engagement list and compile and update data, identify key issues, what opportunities may exist, and provide information to the Director and other staff;
- Assists the economic development team with all aspects of economic development programs and projects;
- Assists Director of Economic Development with all aspects of preparations and support to the Boards of the Delaware County Finance Authority, Community Improvement Corporation, and Environmental Special Improvement District;
- Serves as the records retention manager for the Office of Economic Development;
- Manages office activities/administrative actions as assigned;
- Observes and complies with confidentiality requirements related to the position;
- Drives to various locations to perform job duties;
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance;
- Attends various training sessions, video conferences, and workshops;
- Performs typing, word processing, and related computer operations;
- Works overtime and outside of typical work schedule/business hours as required; and
- Other duties as assigned.
