The Position
The City Council is accepting applications for the Planning Commission, Traffic and Transportation Commission and Parks and Recreation Commission.
Parks & Recreation Commission: As defined in Diamond Bar Municipal Code 2.32.030, the purpose of the five-member Parks and Recreation Commission is: to coordinate all of the recreation and leisure activities of the city; provide for the establishment and maintenance of sound recreation and parks programs; ensure the efficient operation of all recreation and park facilities within the city; and encourage a sound and well-rounded program of activities to serve the recreational, park, leisure time and related needs of people within the city. A stipend of $45 per Parks and Recreation Commission meeting attended is provided. The Parks & Recreation Commission regularly meets bi-monthly on the 4th Thursday of January, March, May, July, September and November.
Planning Commission: As defined in Diamond Bar Municipal Code 2.36.030, the purpose of the five-member Planning Commission is: to act as an advisory body to the City Council which is responsible for directing the short and long range growth and development of the City through the implementation of the City’s General Plan and Municipal Code; to review, approve or provide recommendations to the City Council regarding land use matters such as appropriate regulations to be enforced with the zoning district or general plan and any proposed amendments thereto; and to review development and land use proposals that may impact the community’s growth and environments. A stipend of $65 per Planning Commission meeting attended is provided. The Planning Commission regularly meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month.
Traffic & Transportation Commission: As defined in Diamond Bar Municipal Code 2.40.030, the purposes of the Traffic and Transportation Commission is to: act in an advisory capacity to the City Council in the review and development of systems, facilities, plans, policies and programs concerning rail, bus and other forms of private and public transportation within the City and affecting the City; to assist City agencies in providing input into the planning and implementation process of transportation systems within the City or affecting the City; to assist in studies and reviews of public transportation as the same may affect the City and in preparing recommendations for project implementation in connection therewith and, further, to review and advise on proposals, reports and studies of various public and private agencies as the same may affect the transportation needs of the city; to recommend to the City Council and to the City Traffic Engineer and other City official’s ways and means for improving traffic conditions and the administration and enforcement of traffic regulations; to hear complaints and receive comments from citizens pertaining to traffic issues throughout the community and to make recommendations thereon to the City Council; and to fulfill such additional assignments made with respect to public and private transportation issues, traffic and circulation issues as assigned by the City Council from time to time. A stipend of $45 per The Traffic & Transportation Commission meeting attended is provided. The Traffic & Transportation Commission regularly meets bi-monthly on the 2nd Thursday of January, March, May, July, September and November.
Examples Of Essential Job Duties
Parks & Recreation Commission: The responsibility of the Parks and Recreation Commission is to act in an advisory capacity to the City Council in all matters pertaining to the planning, programming and operation of recreation activities and facilities and the development of recreation areas, facilities, programs and improved services.
Planning Commission: Established by state law, the five-member Planning Commission's general purpose is to review proposed developments that may have an impact on the community's growth and environment. The commission ensures that the proposed developments will adhere to the City's technical, environmental, and esthetic standards. The commission holds public hearings to review plans and ensure they comply with the zoning regulations and general plan development.
Traffic & Transportation Commission: The responsibility of the Traffic and Transportation Commission is to act in an advisory capacity to the City Council in the review and development of systems, facilities, plans, policies and programs concerning private and public transportation within the City and affecting the City. The Commission also makes recommendations to the City Council, City Traffic Engineer, and other City officials regarding the ways and means for improving traffic conditions, as well as the administration and enforcement of traffic regulations.
Qualification Guidelines
Applicants must reside within the City of Diamond Bar limits. By submitting an application, all applicants acknowledge that information contained in their individual application is a public record and may be subject to public inspection pursuant to the California Public Records Act (CA Gov. Code
Selection Process
Applications submitted by the deadline date will be forwarded to the appointing Council Member(s) and appointments will be ratified by the City Council at a subsequent Council Meeting.
Commissioners will be appointed to complete the remaining term with a termination date of February 2027.
This position is not eligible for any City benefits.
