Maintenance Technician I position is the first level of three building maintenance positions. This position is responsible for assisting in the general repair, maintenance and upkeep of City/BLW facilities and equipment. This position provides general maintenance support to the division as assigned.
- Assist in the repair and maintenance of City/BLW’s property such as furniture, cabinets, doors, tables, benches, shelving, partitions/walls, park benches and other task as assigned. Other work will include assisting with the repair, installation and maintenance of roofs, windows, flooring, irrigation systems, lighting, and water and drain lines for City buildings, parks and grounds.
- Secures equipment and material to prevent weather damage, vandalism and theft.
- Cleans and hauls off debris and garbage from worksite as needed. Salvages any usable material from work site
- Performs plumbing repairs to clogged drains and leaks
- Maintains and cleans all tools, machinery and equipment used in the performance of duties and reports faulty or broken equipment to Supervisor. Makes minor repairs to power equipment as assigned
- Responds to after hour’s calls including nights and weekends as needed
- Performs other related duties as needed or assigned
Preferred Qualifications:
- High school graduate or GED
- Minimum three years’ experience in general building maintenance
- Must have a satisfactory driving history including no DUI’s in the last 5 years
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, irrigation systems, light construction, painting, electrical, general facilities maintenance and related tools
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures related to general building maintenance
- Basic knowledge of policies, procedures, standard practices and codes related to structural, plumbing, and general building maintenance
- Ability to read blueprints, job drawings and manufactures assembly instructions
- Skilled in materials and labor estimation
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, job drawings and manufactures assembly instructions
- Must be in good physical condition with the ability to lift, pull or push moderate to heavy objects and walk or stand for extended periods
- Must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to operate a personal computer, MS office products for the composition of brief memos and email correspondence
