Must have the ability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays, and on-call basis.
You'll Be Responsible For
- Responding to calls from residents for animal related concerns.
- Creating positive interactions with reporting parties, witnesses and violators.
- Being a proactive educator; working with members of the public to help them resolve animal related concerns; attending community and humane education events.
- Enforcing animal laws and investigating complaints of animal neglect and cruelty cases; writing reports and preparing cases for court action.
- Utilizing critical thinking skills to interpret and apply appropriate codes and regulations; writing citations when needed.
- Safely handling a variety of animals of different sizes, species and temperaments.
- Participating in enforcement of animal licensing, quarantine and general rabies control.
- Cleaning animal cages and assisting animal center staff with animal and customer care.
- Taking routine on-call after hour shifts.
- Working alongside the City's public safety team including RC Police Department, RC Fire District and Community Improvement.

ARE YOU QUALIFIED
Education And/or Experience
Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for an Animal Services Officer I/II. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of:
Graduation from high school or equivalent, preferably supplemented by specialized coursework in animal health care, or a related field. One to two years of experience in the communication and enforcement of animal services codes, ordinances, and regulations, and the humane care and handling of animals. Experience with a public agency is highly desirable.
License or Certificate
Possession of a valid Class C or Class 3 California Driver's License, and a satisfactory driving record. Possession of a certificate in P.C. 832 is required. Euthanasia technical certification is required.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
The following are a representative sample of the KSA's necessary to perform essential duties of the position. Pertinent State and local laws, codes and regulations; methods and techniques of animal collection, impoundment, and registration; identification of various breeds of dogs, cats, and other domestic animals; principles of animal behavior and care; principles and practices used in dealing with the public; occupational hazards and standard safety practices necessary in the area of animal services; basic principles and procedures of record-keeping; modern office practices, methods and computer equipment; safe work practices; safe driving principles and practices; uses, maintenance and care of a variety of types of animal control equipment.
Operate modern office equipment including computer equipment and software programs; inoculate and medicate animals; operate a two-way radio; operate a motor vehicle safely; interpret, explain, apply, and enforce laws, ordinances, and regulations pertaining to animal services; effectively respond to calls for services; meet and deal tactfully and effectively with the public; recognize normal and abnormal animal behavior; handle potentially dangerous animals in a safe manner; prepare clear and concise reports; prepare and maintain accurate and complete records; work independently and in the absence of supervision; understand and follow oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including a variety of City and other government officials, community groups, and the general public; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; and communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.

Successful candidate will be required to
