Job Announcement
Under general supervision, provides leadership on the operation, evaluation, and strategic planning of the WellFit Performance Center, to include the development and implementation of plans and programs for improving the physical fitness performance of Fairfax County emergency service personnel. Supports all WellFit Performance Center partner agencies – including the Fairfax County Police Department and Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office. Independently designs, develops, and coordinates large and complex programs and projects spanning all WellFit Performance Center partner agencies. The Supervisor of Fitness and Wellness Programs will lead and manage a diverse array of health and fitness initiatives aimed at enhancing the performance and well-being of participants, particularly within emergency services. This role involves overseeing the planning, execution, and evaluation of various fitness classes, workshops, and training programs while fostering a collaborative environment among staff and participants. Additionally, the role plays a critical role in the communication and collaboration with all partner agencies. This individual reports directly to the Fire and Rescue Department Battalion Chief of Health and Wellness.
Note: The assigned functional areas of this position are Strategic Planning, Exercise Physiology , Program coordination and management, Kinesiology, and Athletic Program management.

- Independently designs, develops, and coordinates ongoing department programs and special projects;
- Performs a wide range of professional-level management work for more than one broad administrative function including complex analysis and diverse project management in a lead capacity;
- Coordinates and manages the work of administrative, para-professional, and/or professional-level staff in the day-to-day activities of selected projects.
- Plans and conducts or oversees studies or research activities to ensure program quality, determine unmet needs or ensure efficacy of existing programs;
- Provides guidance, recommendations, and advice to departmental managers;
- Serves on committees, task forces, and management teams to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of existing management/administrative systems;
- Writes, edits, and finalizes reports and presentations and presents findings and recommendations to department senior managers.

Employment Standards
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in field related to the assigned functional area; Plus, four years of professional work experience within the functional area.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience within the tactical athlete performance field.
- Experience or education within Health, Exercise Physiology, or related field of science.
- Experience in a public safety or first responder agency (i.e., fire department, police department, emergency communications, etc.).
- Project management experience.
- Proven ability to work in a collaborative environment, remaining flexible to changing priorities and objectives.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications (i.e., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, etc.).
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
- Driver's License (Required)
- AED (Required)
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation - CPR (Required)
- Strength & Conditioning Certification -CSCC (Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches), or NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association) or equivalent (Required)
- Nutrition Certification – The Essentials of Sports and Exercise Nutrition (Precision Nutrition) (Required)
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, sanctions screening and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift 20-40 lbs. with/without accommodation. Ability to remain in one position for long periods of time to assist customers at different locations. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
