Position Description
Congressman Garamendi (CA-08) seeks a Legislative Assistant to join the legislative team in his Washington, D.C. office. The Legislative Assistant will cover portfolios for the Congressman focusing on health, housing, education, and labor policy. Additional issue areas may be assigned based on interest and as needed.
Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities will include advancing the Member’s legislative priorities by drafting legislation, letters, memos, and talking points; researching and advising the Member on policy issues; making vote recommendations; maintaining constructive relationships with constituents, advocacy groups, and key stakeholders to include working closely with the district team; staffing the Member in relevant meetings within the issue portfolio; supporting the work of the communications team; and other tasks as required.
The position requires strong written and oral communication skills, the capability to manage multiple priorities, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have extensive legislative or policy experience working on the referenced portfolios, a history of working as part of a team, and a demonstrated ability to work with stakeholders to achieve intended outcomes. Bay Area or California ties are a plus.

Salary Level/Range
$65,000 - $85,000.

- Be (i) admitted as a refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157 or granted asylum under 8 U.S.C. § 1158 and (ii) have filed a declaration of intention to become a lawful permanent resident and then a citizen when eligible
- Owe allegiance to the U.S. (i.e., qualify as a non-citizen U.S. national under federal law)
