PAY AND BENEFITS
Annual Pay Range*: $81,115.30 - $102,867.21
Hourly Pay Range*: $38.99 - $49.45
Salary offers will be made within the posted pay range and will be based on a candidate's experience (paid or unpaid) that is directly relevant to the position. This position is classified as a Microcomputer Specialist 2.
* Rates effective July 1, 2025.

JOB DETAILS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Clackamas County Technology Services seeks a dedicated IT support professional to provide top-notch technical support and ensure smooth technology operations to join our team as a Help Desk Support Specialist. In this role, you will provide county staff with in-person, remote, and phone-based technical support, helping resolve IT issues and keep our operations running smoothly.

In this role, you will be the first point of contact for county staff experiencing technical difficulties, providing support via phone, email, and in-person service requests. You will troubleshoot software, hardware, and network issues, escalating complex problems as needed to ensure timely resolutions. Your responsibilities will include installing, configuring, and relocating computers and peripherals and assisting with software installations, updates, and operating system upgrades. You will diagnose and repair PC and peripheral hardware issues, support mobile device troubleshooting and management, and train users on best practices for maintaining and using computer equipment. Additionally, you will coordinate repairs and maintenance with vendors and maintain accurate records of support requests and resolutions to improve our overall IT service efficiency.
The ideal candidate for this position is a problem-solver with a strong technical background and a passion for helping others. You should be comfortable providing clear and patient guidance to users with varying levels of technical expertise. Strong troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively prioritize your tasks are essential. Required Minimum Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*
• A minimum of three (3) years of related experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills to perform the responsibilities of this position that included:
• Hands-on experience and working knowledge of Windows operating system;
• Experience as a field service technician providing user support;
• Experience providing instruction to computer users; and
• Experience training users in correct use of PC workstations and peripherals (smartphones, projectors, external storage devices, printers, scanners, etc.)
• Working knowledge of the repair, maintenance, concepts, capabilities, and components of personal computers (PCs) and related equipment
• Knowledge of applicable software, release levels and compatibility with existing hardware and software
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, system users, and county employees
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
• Ability to work early and late hours to meet timelines, to provide off-hour service, and to respond to emergency situations
Preferred Special Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*
• Experience with troubleshooting, provisioning, and management of mobile devices
• Associates degree or higher in computer sciences (or equivalent industry certifications such A+ or product specific certifications)
• Experience with complex audio/visual systems support for training and conference rooms
• Knowledge of project management principles
• Ability to create and follow documentation of installation and operational procedures
• Ability to use diagnostic and testing tools to identify, diagnose, and resolve hardware and operating system software problems

TYPICAL TASKS
Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
• Provides help desk support to County staff through telephone, e-mail, or written requests; clarifies the nature of software or network problems or requests for services; accesses established resources to determine solutions for personal computer application problems; refers complex or unusual problems to appropriate escalation path.
• Sets up, installs, or relocates computers and related peripheral equipment.
• Coordinates with technical staff and system administrators to support various software packages; Installs and upgrades operating systems and application software; executes data exchanges between personal computers and networks.
• Diagnoses and resolves personal computer and peripheral equipment hardware and operating system problems; initiates corrective action and/or coordinates repair services or software updates and patches; runs diagnostic tests to ensure system integrity
• Provides bench or on-site maintenance to personal computer hardware.
• Executes preventative maintenance programs for personal computers and associated peripheral equipment.
• Trains user department personnel in the proper care and general maintenance of personal computers and peripheral equipment.
• Assists County personnel in planning, analyzing, and implementing technology requirements and objectives.
• Coordinates with vendors for repair and maintenance activities.
• Coordinates with County users, vendors, and programming/technical staff in evaluating, selecting, implementing, training, and supporting various software packages.
• Tests and installs patch cables to support equipment installations at the Hub, Router, or Switch level.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Incumbent typically works in a variety of setting and locations. Work requires the ability to bend, crawl, climb, stoop and be available at sites to provide client support in the installation, repair and maintenance of hardware and software. Incumbent must be able to lift or move personal computers, terminals and peripheral equipment which may weigh up to fifty pounds.
Duties require frequent standing, walking, squatting, kneeling, crawling, bending, twisting, climbing, lying down, reaching, grasping, fine motor control, and the ability to lift up to 55 pounds. Duties also involve occasional exposure to confined spaces, dust, and low lighting.
WORK SCHEDULE
This position is included in the County's alternate workweek program, working 40 hours during a standard workweek of Monday through Thursday (Fridays off). Specific hours of work will be discussed with the candidate selected for this position at the time an offer of employment is extended. This position is designated as on-site/in-person. It is expected that the selected candidate will perform duties at the specified on-site work location.
