About This Role:•Deliver Exceptional Service: Provide high-quality customer support by addressing patron inquiries accurately in person and via telephone.
•Technical Assistance: Help patrons navigate library technology, including printers, copiers, fax machines, and personal electronic devices.
•Resource Management: Facilitate the circulation of materials by checking items in and out, processing hold requests, and assisting patrons in locating resources.
•Database Administration: Create, update, and maintain accurate patron records using specialized library software and databases.
•Policy Guidance: Clearly interpret and explain library policies and procedures to ensure a positive and consistent experience for all visitors.
•Digital Support: Assist patrons with library-specific applications, digital resources, and troubleshooting hardware.
•Operational Support: Maintain a clean and organized library environment through shelf-reading (tidying), assisting with administrative reports, and processing financial transactions via the cash register.
•Community Engagement: Represent the library and Prince William County by participating in various outreach events.
•Professional Development: Stay informed on best practices by attending mandatory training sessions and department meetings.
Minimum Requirements:8th grade education and 1 year of customer service experience
Preferences:•Experience assisting customers in a library or retail environment.
•Experience navigating library-specific apps (e.g., Libby, Hoopla) or research databases.
•Experience troubleshooting technology equipment including printers, copiers, fax machines
•Experience assisting others with technology.
•Experience in interpreting and explaining policies and procedures to the public or staff.
•Experience in cash handling, using a cash register.
•Experience with MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams/Webex/Zoom)
•Scheduling flexibility.
Special Requirements: The position may require travel to other branches within the system. A DMV check will be conducted for employees who drive while on County business.
Work Schedule:This position is a part-time, non-exempt 20 hour a week which includes days, evenings, and weekend hours. Scheduling flexibility is imperative. The work schedules vary depending on the needs of the building. Montclair Library’s current hours of operation are Monday-Wednesday 9:00 am to 8:00 pm; Thursday-Saturday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Weekend and evening work are required.
Hiring Salary Range: $19.41 - $24.88
