The Administration Department plays a central role in ensuring City Council policies and directives are effectively carried out while providing critical support across all City departments. This Department oversees key functions such as municipal management, public and intergovernmental relations, and special projects. It includes the City Manager’s and City Clerk’s Office, City Attorney, Public Information, as well as the Legislative Advocacy, Economic Development, Innovation and Information Technology divisions. Focused on collaboration, responsiveness, and ethical governance, the Administration Department is dedicated to supporting the community, elected officials, and city staff in building a strong, connected, and well-managed city.
What You’ll Do
As our new Economic Development Analyst, you will:
- Plan, develop, and monitor economic development programs and projects that support business attraction, retention, and expansion within the City, helping enhance community amenities and generate sales tax revenue.
- Be responsible for lead generation, tracking and execution of new business pipeline for future development.
- Build relationships with existing and potential businesses; performs research to ensure a thorough understanding of business products, workforce opportunities, and business impacts; develops strategies based on research findings to attract, retain, and grow City businesses.
- Serve as a key point of contact for economic development efforts by working closely with organizations, private businesses, developers, brokers, public agencies, property owners, and the general public.
- Implement marketing and outreach initiatives that promote business attraction and retention, including preparing promotional materials, coordinating email campaigns, tracking engagement, and recommending strategies to strengthen outreach efforts.
- Support business growth and development in the City by building relationships with existing and prospective businesses, conducting research to understand industry needs, and assisting businesses with financing resources, licensing navigation, code compliance, and site selection.
- Represent the City with partner organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce and workforce and economic development organizations to support collaboration and strengthen regional partnerships.
What We’re Looking For
Someone who:
- Understands economic and business development practices, including lead generation, business attraction and retention, real estate and land use processes, financing strategies, and government programs that support business and community development.
- Can analyze economic and business data to identify trends, evaluate opportunities, and make informed recommendations that support business growth and economic vitality.
- Is organized and able to manage multiple projects, including planning programs, setting priorities, monitoring progress, and preparing clear reports and documentation.
- Communicates effectively and builds strong relationships while providing excellent customer service to businesses, community partners, City staff, and the public.
Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- Education: Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public administration, business administration, economics, real estate development, city planning marketing, or a related field.
- Experience: Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in business and economic development, workforce development, sales and marketing, including business attraction and account retention for a public agency.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Employees may be required to work overtime, weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed to meet operational needs.
- Mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standing office equipment, including a computer.
- Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen.
- Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
- The ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects averaging a weight of 10 pounds.
