The Board of Zoning Appeals has five regular members and two alternate members each appointed for a term of three year. At least one member will be an architect or structural engineer of not less than ten years practical experience. Vacancies will be filled for the unexpired terms of members whose terms become vacant.
Current vacancy is an alternate member.
The main purpose of the Board is to rule on all appeals for variances to the City Code. For example, buildings too close to a lot line, oversized fences, and less than minimum setbacks.
Since these rulings are not approved by the Common Council, Alderpersons are encouraged to attend these Board meetings when a constituent has a request for a variance. Alderpersons are notified when a request for a variance has been made by a resident of their district.
Term: Three-year term to run April 2026-April 2029. 1 vacancy
Meetings: Monthly on the third Monday at 7:00pm.
Appleton residency is required for this appointment.
