Position Overview
The CFO will have a day-to-day, ongoing impact on company operations, helping us to analyze, strategize, and grow our financial position. This seasoned strategist will understand current accounting practices and trends. As a member of senior management, the CFO will be comfortable in a leadership role that requires clear and effective communication skills. The CFO will take responsibility (either directly or via staff) for all cash management, investments, insurance, budgeting, and financial reporting, and help drive the company’s financial strategy.
The CFO should be an innovative leader, keeping the senior management team abreast of best practices and tools that will result in a well controlled, yet flexible organization that has strong fiscal management practices.
Responsibilities
- Work with senior managers to efficiently develop budget proposals, provide access to project finance information, and ensure contract/grant compliance and reporting,
- Coordinate the annual budget process and monitor ongoing cash flow of the organization.
- Analyze internal operations and work with leaders to identify areas for investment based on growth or cost reduction incorporating trends and analysis of changes in the business.
- Produce robust reports and analytical summaries, financial ratios and other information to assist the senior management team in short and long term decision making.
- Monitor expense growth, payables and receivables and keep senior team updated on trends.
- Perform risk management through analysis of company liabilities and investments, and evaluate and manage capital structure and funding approaches
- Monitor business performance with tracking tools, establish corrective measures as needed, and prepare detailed reports for management team
- Track contracts for services received, purchasing agreements, lease agreements and other financial obligations
- Oversee Payroll and Benefits processing
- Manage finance personnel and oversee financial systems, ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory entities (ex: Financial Accounting Standards Board, Internal Revenue Service, state attorneys general)
- Comply with national and local financial requirements by studying existing and new legislation and taking appropriate action.
Required Qualifications
- Five or more years of experience in executive leadership role as Controller of CFO
- Excellent leadership skills, with steadfast resolve and personal integrity
- Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills
- Understanding of advanced accounting, regulatory issues, and tax planning
- Exceptional skills in reporting, analytics and use of Excel, and financial accounting software
- Working knowledge of how to raise capital outside traditional lines of credit
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in accounting, business accounting, or finance
- Executive experience with Construction, Utility industry
- Professional certification (ex: Certified Public Accountant)
- Experience with Foundation, a Sage product
