Communications Officers are under the administrative direction of the Division Coordinator. Communications Officers serve as a primary contact for the Citizens of Portland as well as agency officers, animal care services, code enforcement, fire, medical and other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies requesting assistance and or information. This is accomplished by communication interfacing between agency officers and other law enforcement agency officials and serving as the communications link during disasters, civil disturbances, and other serious incidents using the telephone, computer networks and radio systems. May perform other work-related duties as required.
This position is subject to the City of Portland’s Background Investigation and Drug Testing Policy. New hires are required to provide proof of identity and legal authority to work in the United States per Federal law.

Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent required. Able to read and write in English using appropriate grammar and punctuation. Must be able to type accurately.
Special Requirements
Must be able to obtain Texas Telecommunications Officer License within one year. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to multi-task under highly stressful situations. Detail-oriented, organized and effectively able to multi-task using a variety of technologies and software – computer, cell phone, multi-line telephone, two-way radios, etc. One years’ communications/dispatch experience preferred. Valid Texas Class C Drivers’ License with a good driving record. Must pass a drug screen, physical exam and psychological exam as required by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
