Under the supervision of the CVB Director, serves as the City’s primary contact in distribution of information through mediums such as newsletters, the City’s cable channel, website, blog; news releases, social media, video PSAs, etc. Responsible for planning, coordinating and leading the implementation of strategic communications that effectively engage and inform internal audiences (employees) and external stakeholders (residents and business community) about City activities and initiatives, as well as promoting and raising the profile of the City within the broader local and regional community.

- Coordinates communication activities citywide to include programming and creating content for government cable channel; creating and monitoring information on City’s website; creating and editing the City newsletter; creating and editing news releases; communicating through use of various social media outlets; developing and implementing a communications strategy; and responding to media questions whether directly or by routing to appropriate person.
- Creates and manages various video programming projects and publications for the City Manager’s Office and other departments as requested.
- Ability to manage staff and comply with personnel policies and procedures.
- Develops Communication’s annual operating budget and identifies capital needs. Ensures proper purchasing procedures are followed.
- Researches and provides/presents information to City Manager’s Office, City Council, City staff, and to the public as necessary.
- Communicates effectively and courteously with customers, City Council members, public, vendors, contractors, media, and staff in person, in writing, via email and the Internet, and by phone.
- Responds to and resolves customer inquiries in a timely, effective, and professional manner.
- Works on a wide variety of projects simultaneously and has the ability to work with confidential documents and issues appropriately.
- Some travel required.
- Works extended days and flexible hours including evenings and weekends for certain types of emergencies, meetings, and/or special events.
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office software and basic photo editing and video editing abilities. Experience with Civic Plus preferred. Must have the ability to prioritize, plan and schedule; work independently in the absence of specific instructions or supervision. Possess the ability to express ideas effectively, verbally and in writing, to groups and individuals. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with subordinates and fellow employees; must possess a high level of tact, diplomatic skills, self-motivation and integrity due to the frequency and types of contact with individuals throughout the organization and otherwise. Public relations/public information experience is preferred.Degree in Journalism or Communications is preferred. Must have a minimum of five years experience in related field as well as management experience. Experience working in city government a plus. Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License or ability to obtain one.
