The City of Farmers Branch is seeking a passionate and dedicated Emergency Management Intern to join our team. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects, gain practical experience, and develop valuable skills in the field of Emergency Management, Fire Administration, and Community Outreach. The successful candidate will work closely with our team to assist in various aspects of emergency management, including planning, training, exercises, and community outreach.
- Further work on the development of the city’s COOP plan.
- Assist with EOC updates and improvements
- Assist with developing and conducting a table-top exercise and EOC training for city staff.
- Continuous updates of the plans and annexes for the City of Farmers Branch.
- Assist with Emergency Management GIS tool development
- Assisting the Emergency Management Coordinator in a variety of roles and special projects.
- All other duties as assigned.
Must, by the start of employment, be enrolled in an accredited college or university and in the process of obtaining a bachelors or graduate degree majoring in Public Administration, Emergency Management, or a similar field.
Experience in GIS is preferred.
Internship must be approved with Internship coordinator prior to beginning.
Open to both Undergraduate and Graduate students.
Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a criminal history check, drug and alcohol test and motor vehicle review. - Ability to be organized and have efficient management of time and deadlines.

Special Requirements:This position is classified as a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing during the course of employment.
Mobility within an office, field, and off-site environment is required.
Licenses and Certificates:ICS-100, -200, -700, and -800 is required, or must be obtained during the first month of employment.
Work Environment:The physical demands of this position are considered light in nature and primarily involve work in an office and climate-controlled setting. This includes sitting most of the time with constant use of screens, monitors, and phones. Physical demands are sedentary in nature requiring little physical effort in working with light materials up to 25 lbs.
