The City of Pasadena Parks, Recreation, and Community Service Department is currently seeking a part-time Recreation Leader to provide a variety of recreational duties including special event setup, front desk coverage, facility reservations and supply inventory in the Jackie Robinson Community Center. The Jackie Robinson Center addresses all community needs. Most Human Services provided by the City are conducted through this Center. This position works up to 19 hours per week, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
The
ideal candidate will have prior recreation experience that includes heavy public contact, field trips, special events, and work with community-based organizations, youth, teens, and seniors. This position serves a vital role for patrons visiting the park and/or community center. Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Jackie Robinson Community Center Hours Of Operation
- Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.
- Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- Saturday- Sunday, closed. Only open for facility reservation permits and special events.
Essential Functions

- Provides information concerning facility reservations, current and upcoming class programming, youth sports, special events, and community service programs.
- Provides front desk coverage duties to assist park and/or community center patrons in accessing recreation programs.
- Performs general office work, such as filing, record keeping, processing payments and typing. Responds to inquiries over the phone and in person.
- Sets up room, tables, and chairs for meetings, classes, facility reservations, and events.
- Maintains all supplies in good order.
- Assists in planning and conducting recreation programming; determining and arranging for supplies, equipment, and facilities needed for various programs and activities.
- Schedules, setting up, and supervising of the facility.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualification Guidelines
Education And Experience
- 50 hours of experience as a volunteer and/or paid leader in recreation, physical education, or related field are required.
- 200 hours as a paid leader in recreation, physical education, or related field is highly desired.
- Current enrollment in a college or university majoring in Recreation or a related field is desirable.
- Have physical strength and agility to lift, carry, and pull 50 pounds on a regular basis.
Selection Process:
The selection process may consist of any combination of training and experience evaluation, Subject Matter Expert (SME) review, structured interview panel, and department-level interviews.

There is currently one part-time (up to 19 hours per week) vacancy in the Jackie Robinson Center of the Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department. The resulting eligibility list from this recruitment may be used to fill this vacancy and similar vacancies in the future.
PROBATIONARY WORK TEST PERIOD = At-will
UNIT = Hourly Recreation Leader (part-time, at will, no benefits)
FLSA = Non-Exempt
Effective January 1, 2013, new members to CalPERS or an agency with CALPERS' reciprocity or who have more than a six month break in service between employment in a CalPER (or reciprocal) agency will be subject to the provisions of the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA) and will receive the 2% @ 62 benefit formula.
Employees who are current members of CalPERS or an agency with CalPERS' reciprocity, or who have less than a six month break in service between employment in a CalPERS (or reciprocal) agency and employment with the City will be enrolled in the 2.5% @ 55 benefit formula.
All employees are required to pay the full employee contribution to CalPERS.
