What Success Looks Like In This JobThe Tax Site Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating, organizing, and supervising the operation of a free tax preparation site in Adams County. This role is essential for ensuring the smooth and efficient delivery of tax services to the community.
Hosted by the Adams County Health Department under the Tax Help Colorado Campaign, the site will serve various locations, including Westminster and Commerce City, with potential expansion to neighboring counties. The coordinator will oversee tax staff, manage client intake, and ensure compliance with IRS guidelines.
The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and communication skills, a commitment to community service, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the community while gaining valuable experience in tax assistance operations.

This is a temporary position expected to end April 2025.- Ability to demonstrate learning of IRS required training and certification (See Training Resources and Requirements)
- Ensures the site is following IRS VITA quality site requirements
- Exceptional customer service skills including:
- Ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with coworkers and taxpayers
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Ability to handle individuals who may be in stressful or crisis situations with care and consideration
- Ability to support tax preparers when taxpayer issues arise with tax concerns
- Ensures the VITA site is open during scheduled hours and is available while the site is in operation either at the site, by phone, or by other electronic means
- Periodically help taxpayers schedule an appointment via phone call
- Ensures adequate tax preparer coverage based on scheduled appointments
- Ensures all tax returns are electronically filed promptly, and that rejected returns are either corrected or the taxpayer is contacted
- Ensures that a quality review is conducted on each return prepared by a tax preparer
- Answers taxpayer questions regarding tax law or tax returns
- Maintains site, ensuring the site is stocked with supplies, tax materials, and any necessary equipment
- Shares Volunteer Tax Alerts, Quality Site Requirements Alerts, and technical updates with all tax preparers during the filing season
- Promotion and outreach of the free tax preparation site across different establishments ie. Non-profits, small local businesses, etc.
Hours, Location, Travel: - Location: This is a hybrid position that is based out of the Adams County Human Services Center in Westminster, CO
- On site – Adams County Human Services, Anythink Commerce City, and other location(s) in neighboring counties
- Remote - Other days
- Travel: This position should expect to travel up to 60% of the time between Adams County Human Services Center and other Adams County sites.
Training Resources and Requirements Adams County will support tax site coordinators in training and provide further resources for certification and preparation, by January 24th, 2025.
There are various options available for completing the site coordinator training. However, partner-led training sessions will be provided during the week of January 22nd, 2025.

- Experience: A minimum of 1 tax year season of related experience with income tax returns, preparations and working with the public.
- Basic understanding of VITA, basic tax law, or previous tax preparation highly preferred.
- Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred
- Must pass a criminal background check.
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 10 pounds.
