Under the supervision of the Director of Information Technology. The IT Technician who will assist the IT Director and other IT staff with maintaining local area network hardware, software and telecommunications services such as personal computers, system software applications, printers, servers, routers, bridges, switches, modems, WAN equipment, radio communications equipment, telephone equipment, and cabling and internet service providers for the City of Portland. The IT Technician will train users on software and equipment usage, responding to the needs and questions of network users. Will assist in the development and implementation of disaster recovery procedures and will be part of the essential personnel required during hurricanes and other disasters.
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Responds to the needs and questions of network users concerning their access to resources on the network and operation of various software programs
- Perform regular maintenance on end user systems
- Provide appropriate cabling infrastructure
- Provide appropriate battery backup systems
- Tower climbing
- Antenna maintenance and installation
- Ensure appropriate power needs for cameras and antennas
- Establishing and maintaining network users, user environment, directories, and security

Qualifications
• Associate’s degree or equivalent required • A+, CCNA and MCDSP certification preferred. • Five years desktop and server support, including Microsoft and Unix/Linux/BSD operating systems experience. • Two years relational database administration and/or database development experience. • Application development experience preferred. • Fiber optic experience preferred. Must possess strong computer and networking skills. • Must possess a strong desire to learn about computers and other communications equipment. • Must possess excellent customer service skills.
