What will your work look like?

Collaborating with Capital Project Managers to create highly functioning teams
Supervisory responsibilities including work plan development, professional development/training plans. performance reviews, staff mentorship
Guiding team members on technical aspects of capital project delivery for stormwater infrastructure projects
Collaborating with the Stormwater Services Section to coordinate capital delivery and process improvements
Mentoring junior engineers on project management best practices
Participating in Capital Section and Water and Land Resources Division Committees
Identifying and implementing process improvements
Supporting Stormwater Capital Unit and Capital Section initiatives

About the Team:

The Stormwater Capital Unit (SCU) designs, permits, implements and monitors stormwater projects across King County that address flow control, water quality, and aged or outdated infrastructure. SCU has a multidisciplinary staff of engineers, project managers, a landscape architect, and an ecologist with experience in project feasibility, project planning and design, regulatory management, construction procurement and supervision, and project effectiveness monitoring.

We are looking for a compassionate, resourceful and technically skilled team leader who can support our multi-disciplinary teams to advance high priority stormwater projects within the newly formed Capital Section. The ideal candidate is someone who can effectively build project teams and mentor engineers and project managers under their supervision. Additionally, the most successful candidates will have demonstrated experience with stormwater infrastructure project management, capital project delivery, work well with diverse teams, and collaborate effectively with internal and external partners. What You Will Be Doing:

Provide direct supervision, technical oversight, and quality control to an interdisciplinary team for the implementation of stormwater capital improvement projects. Supervisory duties include hiring, performance management, career development, coaching and mentoring, and fostering a work culture where staff feel valued and not over allocated.
Direct personnel in the planning, design, and construction of stormwater capital projects, including facility retrofits, new stormwater facilities, flood reduction, and water quality retrofits to help meet regulatory compliance, habitat improvement, and public health/safety.
Provide and/or direct technical and quality engineering review of capital improvement projects to apply accepted design and engineering standards.
Assist in the development and implementation of workflow processes and ensure compliance with the WLR Project Management Manual in terms of project charters and planning, alternatives analysis, preliminary and final design, permitting, acquisition, construction, and closeout
Collaborate with colleagues across the Stormwater Capital Unit, Capital Section and Stormwater Services Section to develop annual capital improvement project plans and budgets, including estimating costs, assigning work, and setting priorities.
