About The Position

We are looking for someone to join our team of dedicated technicians and help us deliver optimal and humane medical services to the animals in our care. As an Animal Health Technician, you will aid in providing proper medicinal and preventative treatments and assist our veterinarians in performing various surgical procedures. This position requires the employee in office and or customer facing for all hours worked.

We Require
- One year of experience treating and handling animals in a veterinary clinic, humane society, or similar animal care facility
- High School Diploma or GED
- Post-secondary education may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis
- Candidates must be flexible and able to work all shifts, including starting as early as 5 am and finishing as late as 7 pm, working weekends and holidays. Employees can be assigned to any shift, with any combination of days off, determined by the Department's needs

- Experience as a veterinary technician at a high-volume spay/neuter clinic or animal shelter
- Completion of a certified curriculum in veterinary technician/assisting
Job Contributions
- Participate in high volume/high-quality surgery at MCACC by restraining animals for pre-operative exams, inducing animals, preparing animals for surgery, monitoring anesthesia, monitoring recovery, and maintaining surgical cleanliness in the surgical suite
- Provide prescribed medication and perform treatments on shelter animals
- Administer vaccinations and implant microchips into animal
- Clean, disinfect, and maintain the clinic and job-related equipment according to established disease control protocols
- Complete data entries and maintain detailed and accurate animal health records
- Surves the shelter population to identify animals in need of medical attention, grooming, or sterilization
- Assist staff veterinarians with various procedures, including euthanasia and emergency situations
- Educate adopters on appropriate medical care, including post-operative instructions and annual vaccinations
- Deliver quality customer service to clients, volunteers, and staff while actively promoting our mission, services, programs, and events
- Perform routine clinical laboratory tests, including fecal flotations, skin scrapes, and urine cytology
Working Conditions
- Work is predominantly performed in an animal shelter with exposure to extreme and varying temperatures, dogs and cats with unknown temperaments and behaviors, excessive noise, animal waste and fluids, deceased animals, cleaning chemicals, and Zoonotic Diseases
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk on all types of surfaces, sometimes slippery and/or uneven and rough, and perform duties that require lifting, bending, and stooping
- Will be using radiology equipment, grooming equipment, diagnostic tools, surgical tools, sterilization equipment, and protective equipment when in the isolation ward
- Must be able to lift up to 50-100 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10-20 lbs. constantly
