Parks and Recreation Internship, 2025

The Woodlands Township is seeking two (2) interns to assist the Parks and Recreation Department in the summer of 2025. The purpose of this position is to further the students understanding and experience in the field of the parks and recreation (programming, park planning, administration, open space management, etc.).
Deadline to apply for the 2025 Summer Internship is Friday, March 7
- Paid Internship: $6,000 stipend for a summer semester internship.
- The intern will be responsible for arranging own housing/lodging during the internship.
- Interns are required to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, including holidays, evenings and weekends.
Summary Of Duties
The purpose of this position is to further the student’s understanding and experience in the field of the parks and recreation. The intern will assist with a variety of parks and recreation management duties. Our internship experience is geared to meet the needs of each intern individually. Interns will be responsible for listing what they feel are important professional skills to bridge this gap.
Recreation Focus: (Bear Branch Recreation Center, Rob Fleming Recreation Center, Texas TreeVentures & Riva Row Boathouse)
Parks Focus: (Natural Resources, Forestry, Facilities Maintenance, Ranger Program, Project Management, Streetscapes, Aquatics)
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- The intern will be assigned to a supervisor who will develop a work schedule and job responsibilities for the intern, prior to the start date.
- The supervisor will orient the intern on the policies, procedures and philosophies of The Woodlands Township.
- The supervisor will be responsible for evaluating the job performance of the intern on weekly basis and conduct weekly meetings to assess the progress of the intern.
- The supervisor will assign the following specific projects and duties to the intern (examples below):
- Schedule of required meetings.
- A special event, program, or project to organize and conduct.
- Schedule meetings/interviews with Department Superintendent/Managers and other nearby agencies (if possible).
- The Woodlands Township will follow guidelines set forth by the intern’s university and supervisor.
- The supervisor may provide the intern duties, responsibility and exposure in the following areas:
- Budget Preparation
- Facility Planning
- Programming
- Brochure Preparation
- Publicity/Marketing
- Program Project Supervision
- Revenue/Participation Reports
- Purchasing
- Hiring process
- Scheduling of Staff
- Program evaluations
- Facility operations
Minimum Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education: Students in either a Bachelor's or Master's program in Parks and Recreation Management or closely related field (sports management, public administration).
Experience: One year of experience in the field of parks and recreation or sports management.
Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver's license.
