The City of Auburn is looking to fill a Records Clerk position in our Legal Department. Records Clerks are responsible for complex public disclosure requests in compliance with the Public Records Act, serve as the front reception for the City Clerk’s Office, perform clerical work in support of the Office of the City Clerk with emphasis on City records and historical municipal data and records.

OUR CITYThe City of Auburn is home to over 80,000 residents and encompasses over 29.8 square miles of land, two rivers, and is part of two counties - King and Pierce. The City operates as a Strong-Mayor form of Mayor-Council government, with a City Council of seven at-large members.In this role, you will: - Review public records requests, gather, upload, review, and redact records in accordance with Washington State law, and provides records in response to requests for public records; coordinates with the supervisor to ensure requests for public records are responded to correctly and in a timely manner.
- Review and redact Police Body Worn Camera footage and police reports in response to public records requests, including audio and video recordings that may be disturbing.
- Maintain the City’s filing systems; catalog, route, and file complex paperwork for quick retrieval including, but not limited to, correspondence, contracts, agreements, financial, legislative, historical information, and other records that are maintained by the City Clerk’s Office.
- Maintain and monitor the City’s records retention program in accordance with provisions of law regarding retention; arranges for the disposal of records upon expiration of the retention period.
- Receive, process, and receipt money for passport applications, traffic school, dangerous dog registrations, and public records.
- Act as a receptionist, answering a high volume of telephone calls and assisting the public.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
- Work courteously and effectively with all people in person and over the telephone assisting them with a wide variety of information pertaining to City.
- Plan, prioritize, and organize workflow in order to meet position and departmental goals and deadlines

AND - Two years of increasingly responsible related work experience; related education may be substituted on a month-per-month basis for up to one year of experience.
OR - A combination of education, experience, and training that would indicate the ability to successfully accomplish the primary functions listed above. Knowledge of the Public Records Act and experience with disclosure timelines, exemption rules, and document production is highly desirable. Knowledge of record management is highly desirable.
The employee may be required, upon management discretion, to possess a Notary Public License issued by the State of Washington.
The employee will be required to possess the ability to obtain a US Passport acceptance certification and maintain annual recertification, upon management discretion.
Ability to pass a thorough background check and pass Criminal Justice Information System Security and Awareness Training.
