City Operations, ensuring the city’s continued success in fostering a thriving, innovative, and well-managed community. Working closely with the City Manager, City Council, and department leaders, these individuals will help shape the future of Commerce City through strategic leadership, operational excellence, and commitment to community engagement.
DEPUTY CITY MANAGER – STRATEGIC INITIATIVES
The Deputy City Manager for Strategic Initiatives will be responsible for advancing the city’s long-term vision by leading citywide initiatives, innovation, and policy development. This role requires a forward-thinking leader who can identify emerging trends, drive strategic planning efforts, and build cross-sector partnerships that position Commerce City for sustainable growth and success. The ideal candidate will leverage their years of experience and intuition as an influential strategist capable of aligning city priorities with community needs and fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead strategic planning efforts and citywide initiatives.
- Support the development and strengthening of intergovernmental affairs with partners across public and private sectors.

DEPUTY CITY MANAGER – CITY OPERATIONS
The Deputy City Manager for City Operations will focus on ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of city services, infrastructure, and day-to-day municipal functions. This role demands an experienced operational leader with a deep understanding of municipal service delivery, budget management, and public safety coordination. The successful candidate will have a track record of optimizing organizational performance, driving operational improvements, and ensuring residents receive high-quality city services.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
Successful candidates will be passionate drivers of culture and impact. These visionary leaders possess a deep understanding of municipal government, strategic planning, and operational management, as either position may be asked to support the responsibilities of the other Deputy City Manager and the City Manager in their absence. They will be collaborative, forward-thinking, and highly effective communicators who can engage with elected officials, City staff, and community stakeholders. Finally, the ideal candidates will have the experience to lend their expertise to key transformative projects like Victory Crossing, adjacent to the Colorado Rapids stadium.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor’s degree in public administration, Business Administration, or a related field is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
- A minimum of ten (10) progressively responsible experiences in local government, with at least five years in a leadership or executive role.
- Proven ability to lead large-scale initiatives and oversee complex municipal operations.
- Extensive knowledge of budgeting, financial management, and performance measurement.
- Experience working in a fast-growing, diverse community with evolving needs.
COMPENSATION
The anticipated hiring range for these Deputy City Manager positions is
$193,000 - $258,148 annually. Commerce City offers an extensive benefits package, including an 8% 401A match and up to a 3% deferred compensation match, in addition to comprehensive healthcare and professional development.

PAID TIME-OFF BENEFITS:
- Holidays: 12 paid holidays each year with the addition of an 8-hour Floating Holiday (in addition to the Floating Holiday that can be earned by participating in the Wellness Program).
- General Leave: Leave banks are granted to employees after six months of full-time employment. General Leave may be used for vacations, personal business, illness, or other reasons as requested by the employee and approved by his/her supervisor.

Eight private counseling sessions are available on a range of needs including, but not limited to marital issues, parenting concerns, grief counseling, supervisor issues, and drug and alcohol abuse.
- Tuition Reimbursement: The City provides a tuition reimbursement program that reimburses qualified educational expenses.
- Eligibility for Pay Increases: Employees are eligible for a pay increase during their annual appraisal following a successful evaluation. Pay increases do not come at the time of the six-month introductory evaluation.
- Employee Home Ownership Program: To encourage employees to reside within the City limits of Commerce City, we may provide a secured loan for the down payment and/or closing cost assistance on a home in Commerce City. The employee must meet all City criteria as well as first mortgage underwriting criteria.
- Personal Computer Employee Purchase Program: To encourage the development of employee computer skills, the City offers an interest-free loan to you for the purchase of computer hardware (including a Desktop or Laptop) and software. The employee must have successfully completed their 6-month Introductory Period for eligibility.
- Recreation Center Membership: Employees and family members are eligible for a membership to the Commerce City Recreation Center for $5.00 per person per year.
- Golf Course Green Fees: Employees can play the City's award-winning Buffalo Run Golf Course at a rate of $9.00 for 9-holes or $18.00 for 18-holes. Employees can also purchase golf merchandise at discounted prices.
