The City of Tukwila is seeking a Facilities Custodian to perform routine custodial to minor facilities maintenance activities. The Facilities Division of the Public Works Department is actively seeking an individual who is punctual, a self-starter, and able to work independently. Under the supervision of the Facilities Superintendent, this position will be part of a team maintaining office buildings throughout the City and the Tukwila Community Center totaling up to 150,000 sq. ft of space. Hiring Salary Range: $5,266 - $6,402 per month, plus excellent benefits. This position is represented by the Teamsters, Local #763.

Cleans and disinfects restrooms and replenishes supplies.
Dusts and polishes furniture and removes trash.
Mops, sweeps, strips, waxes, polishes, shampoos, buffs, and/or vacuums all floors, carpets, furniture, etc. using a variety of equipment to include carpet extractor, auto-scrubber, genie lift, shampoo machine, etc.
Washes interior/exterior windows, mirrors, walls, metal, and woodwork.
Changes light bulbs and related fixtures.
Climbing ladders and working on boom lift.
May set-up and take down furniture for rental groups.
Maintains supply inventory.
Responds to non-routine situations such as chemical release in City facilities, facility alarms, and/or fire/storm watches.
Inspects and maintains assigned custodial equipment such as carpet extractor, auto-scrubber, vacuum, and small tools for proper operating condition.
Maintains reasonable, predictable, and regular attendance during the standard work week.
KNOWLEDGE (position requirements at entry):
- Equipment, supplies, chemicals, and cleaners used to clean buildings and furnishings, to include applicable safety precautions, maintenance, and repairs; and
- Alarm systems.
SKILLS (position requirements at entry):
- Using equipment and tools properly and safely;
- Applying customer service techniques;
- Using computers and related software and cell phones;
- Establishing and maintaining effective interpersonal relationships at all organizational levels and with the public; and
- Communication, both oral and written, sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (Position requirements at entry):
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and one year of commercial custodial experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Must be fingerprinted and pass a background check prior to hire.
- Must be able to work weekends and evenings.
- First aid and CPR certification must be successfully completed within six months of hire.
