Position Specific Summary
The Public Information Specialist position at the City of Tucson’s Police Department creates and distributes multimedia content to provide information to the public.
Work is performed under the supervision of a Police Sergeant. This position does not supervise.
Duties and Responsibilities
Performs administrative duties including answering telephone and email messages, requesting information, and completing reports. Runs errands, photographs events, collaborates with City personnel, develops schedules, and writes and coordinates newsletters and calendars of events.
Builds and executes a social media strategy through audience research.
Creates and distributes social media content, marketing packages and communications materials.
Sets up and optimizes department pages within each social media platform.
Coordinates media events, writes and disseminates press releases and story ideas, and develops and maintains relationships with editors and reporters. Maintains and updates website, creates and develops advertisements, and tracks media coverage.
Coordinates programs, presentations, and special events by scheduling, conducting research, and preparing materials and presentations. Communicates and establishes relationships with stakeholders, and reports results.
Participates in commissions and committees as requested, proofreads and edits written material, and maintains the media database.
Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
Working Conditions
Majority of work completed in office. Occasional evening or weekend event attendance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Bachelor's degree
Experience
Three (3) years of directly related experience
Equivalency
Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
License/Certifications
A valid and unrestricted driver’s license with two (2) years of licensed driving is required - Various
Preferred Qualifications
Two (2) years of professional experience with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.)
Two (2) years of experience in Marketing, Communications, or Public Information

The recruitment process will include an application/resume review, a written/practical assessment and a screening panel interview (tentatively scheduled for the week of March 17, 2025). The candidates selected for hire must successfully pass the following:
* An extensive background investigation, including local, state, and national criminal fingerprint checks.
* Motor Vehicle History review.
