General Job Description
This position reports to the manager of math and science on the Special Education Assessment Team in the Student Assessment Division. Performs highly complex consultative services and technical assistance work related to the development of alternate assessments in science, including the newly mandated End-of-Course science tests in biology, chemistry, and physics, for students receiving special education services. Essential Job Functions: Reviews, edits, and modifies test items for use on alternate assessments for science; Facilitates meetings with Texas educators to review data generated by field tests and to review, edit, and approve science items for use on alternate assessments; Collaborates with TEA student assessment and curriculum staff to ensure that science tests are aligned with the state curriculum; Assists with the development of testing materials and agency publications related to alternate assessments and/or science; Assists with the development and delivery of presentations for regional education service centers and professional organizations; Interacts with educators, contractors, and the public regarding various aspects of the student assessment program; Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment; Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Graduation from an accredited four year college or university.
Experience: Two (2) years experience working with high school science programs at the district, ESC, or state level, including experience related to research, education, and/or assessment. Recent teaching experience in high school science preferred.
Travel: 5%
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities (KSA)
Knowledge of: The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for biology, chemistry, and physics; Special education procedures related to modifications and/or accommodations for instruction and assessment; Large-scale assessment.
Skill in: Writing and public-speaking; Revising effectively and proofreading accurately; Assuring the quality and accuracy of work produced by yourself and others; Using personal computers.
Ability to: Implement and coordinate a variety of projects; Manage tight schedules for the production of critical documents; Exercise independent judgment when prioritizing multiple tasks; Communicate professionally and effectively with diverse constituents.

Salary Is Dependent On Qualifications.
Positions exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will earn compensatory time off rather than overtime for hours in excess of 40 per week. May be required to work hours other than 8 to 5. May be required to work weekends and holidays.
