Position Summary:
Under guidance of the Mechanic IV, performs skilled work in methods, practices, materials, and tools used in automotive and mechanic repair to enable performance of considerable difficulty in repairing, maintaining and troubleshooting in accordance with safety standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains Inventory Supplies.
- Order required parts/supplies as needed for assigned tasks.
- Performs various preventative maintenance functions.
- Perform normal daily cleanup of immediate work area.
- Use of diagnostic equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skill & Ability:
- Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions.
- Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with others.
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrates occupational safety and hazard practices and procedures.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor in rather inaccessible areas.
- Ability to perform a wide range of repairs, perform mechanical tasks, and maintain records and reports.
- Ability to be deployed to remote areas of the County and work in adverse conditions for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift 50-100 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, up to 10-20 lbs. constantly and carry long distances up to 20 feet or more.
- Ability to stand, bend or stoop repeatedly or continually over time.
- Ability to walk over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces.
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED Certificate or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the capacity to perform the duties of the position.
- Mechanic’s Certificate (Mechanic II, III, IV)
- Diesel mechanic experience (Mechanic II, III, IV)
- Must maintain a valid driver's license throughout the length of employment
- Must present a Motor Vehicle Department printout showing a clean driving record.
- Pre-employment and random alcohol and drug testing.
- Must wear safety equipment and uniform, including safety toe boots
- Must be available for emergency call-out.
AND
Mechanic I: Minimum of three (3) years of recent experience as an automotive mechanic.
Mechanic II: Minimum of one (1) year of work experience as Mechanic I; Must also repair, maintain, troubleshoot, overhaul, and rebuild cars, light trucks, boats, small engines, and heavy-duty equipment in the shop or in the field; repair engines, transmissions, clutches, driving axles, suspension systems, brakes, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems; and some welding, paint and body repair.
