Job Summary
The Payment Posting Specialist accurately and efficiently enters remittance information (payments, adjustments, and denials) provided from the insurance carriers. The Payment Posting Specialist is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely posting of payments across multiple Patient Financial Systems. This role involves running financial reports to reconcile various billing transactions with system records and maintaining a monthly revenue tracker to support financial reconciliation and month-end closing processes. The Specialist will work closely with the Revenue Cycle team to meet established timelines and financial goals.

- Ability to make decisions regarding sensitive information.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications; Word, Excel and Outlook.

Education
Experience
- 2 years’ experience in posting medical payments
- Working knowledge in interpreting explanation of benefit (EOB) from various insurances, medical terminology, and insurance billing,
- ICD 10 coding experience (1 year)
Credential
Preferred:
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC)
Other
- Driver's license with the State of Washington.
- Motor vehicle insurance liability policy, a certificate of deposit, or a liability bond to the required limits.
Job Specific Functions/Performance
- Reads and interprets the explanation of benefits (EOB) from different insurance payers and post payments to patient encounters with minimal or no error rate daily.
- Demonstrates the ability to adjust as necessary when payment posting for Commercial, State and Government plans.
- Processes patient payments sent via mail/EHR systems within a 5 day or less turnaround.
- Follows proper procedures and in a timely fashion, notify the Supervisor of any underpayments and payment discrepancies for research.
- Maintains balancing batches assigned via the Practice Management System and the daily posting of these batches. Reports any batch issues to their immediate supervisor for prompt resolution.
- Collaborates with teammates to ensure that our departmental close for each month is met within the first three business days of the following month.
- Works closely with other team members to resolve patient issues.
- Adheres to company policies to ensure appropriate steps are taken when complicated posting situations arise and in keeping error ratio low.
- Adheres to attendance standards in order to perform the job functions for daily operations and/or continuity of patient care.
