What You Will Be Doing Here At Team Rc
Our part-time Animal Services Officer plays an important role by responding to calls for stray and aggressive animals, enforcing animal codes, rescuing animals in distress, and assisting the public with their animal related concerns. They will also support other divisions as needed, such as the front office and animal care teams.

You’ll Be Responsible For
- Patrolling the city and enforcing animal laws.
- Responding to calls for aggressive animals, animal bites, animals in distress, stray animals, leash law violations, deceased animals, and wildlife assistance.
- Investigating animal cruelty and neglect cases, nuisance complaints, and dangerous dog cases.
- Writing detailed notes; preparing reports for court and administrative hearings.
- Participating in the enforcement of animal licensing, quarantine, and rabies control.
- Cleaning animal cages and assisting with animal care, dispatching, and front office.
- Animal Services Officers I and II must have the ability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays, and on-call basis.

Education And/or Experience
Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for an Animal Services Officer I/II. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of:
Animal Services Officer I
Graduation from high school or equivalent, preferably supplemented by specialized coursework in animal health care, or a related field.
Animal Services Officer II
In addition to the above, one to two years of experience in the communication and enforcement of animal services codes, ordinances, and regulations, and the humane care and handling of animals. Experience with a public agency is highly desirable.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
The following are a representative sample of the KSA’s necessary to perform essential duties of the position. The level and scope of the knowledge and abilities listed below vary between the I and II levels.
Pertinent State and local laws, codes and regulations; methods and techniques of animal collection, impoundment, and registration; identification of various breeds of dogs, cats, and other domestic animals; principles of animal behavior and care; principles and practices used in dealing with the public; occupational hazards and standard safety practices necessary in the area of animal services; basic principles and procedures of record-keeping; modern office practices, methods and computer equipment; safe work practices; safe driving principles and practices; uses, maintenance and care of a variety of types of animal control equipment.
Operate modern office equipment including computer equipment and software programs; inoculate and medicate animals; operate a two-way radio; operate a motor vehicle safely; interpret, explain, apply, and enforce laws, ordinances, and regulations pertaining to animal services; effectively respond to calls for services; meet and deal tactfully and effectively with the public; recognize normal and abnormal animal behavior; handle potentially dangerous animals in a safe manner; prepare clear and concise reports; prepare and maintain accurate and complete records; work independently and in the absence of supervision; understand and follow oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including a variety of City and other government officials, community groups, and the general public; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; and communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
License Or Certificate
Animal Services Officer I
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C or Class 3 California Driver’s License, and have a satisfactory driving record.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a certificate in P.C. 832 within one year of employment is required. Ability to obtain Euthanasia technical certification within one year of assignment.
Animal Services Officer II
Possession of a valid Class C or Class 3 California Driver’s License, and a satisfactory driving record.
Possession of a certificate in P.C. 832 is required.
Euthanasia technical certification is required.
